the twisties!!
i finally experienced a windy road for handling and went out to a kinda sorta popular road here in cali, in Palos Verdes, with some friends, and i must say that i have now experienced the true handling skills of our FC's...its amazing how i kept up with a RSX, and a EK6, with all out suspension work and JDM front clip from japan. its really fun and im hooked now, of course im not dumb and i know my limits, but it was fun, and we might goto the mulholland raceway tonight in Malibu. AWSOME! ive totally changed my agenda for my FC now, and after i get my header back installed im going for all out suspension, looking to purchase the TEIN HA coilover system, maybe even the RA.

ya, twisties driving is fun, i suggest you get some good tires and brake pads and brake fluid first, then get yourself some JIC FLT-A2s and DTSS bushings and sway bars get all that stuff, and youll thank me later

Hell, if you're gonna come over to the darkside then first things first...you need good rubber! Then of course go for some good brakes and the rest of the lot.

Mulholland is fun, but way too straight for my liking. I like Old Topanga, Latigo, Los Flores, etc. better. Trust me. You will fall in love with those twisties on the Santa Monica ranges.
Just watch out when you go on Latigo and Los Flores...those two are CRAZY. One mistake and off (the cliff) you go. Make sure you sort out your car completely before attempting to go on those roads.
FYI, TEIN discontinued the HA's already; it's been replaced by the Type SS (I think). I run HA's on my vert, and frankly it's the best compromise between functionality and practicality. Get them while the dealers still have them!

sup Chad, be careful up there
Try not to post locations (if possible edit the post) on the internet. 'Touge' has been getting extremely popular lately and more and more people are going. A lot of the popular ones are hot (especially all of the ones mentioned)...meaning there is a very high chance that you will get busted, arrested, and car impounded. M***** is the worst place to go now, they are having MAJOR problems with people going up LCR and are zero tolerance. They will not help you if you crash, so be forewarned. It was not like this a few years ago. Id go every week, there would be no one there, no crashes to worry about.
I've been running canyons for almost 5 years now...finally crashed/totalled in that POS 240 i bought last month. Try not to take it too hard, if your canyon car is your only car, you'll be SOL if you crash-- if you drive canyons hard all the time, it's bound to happen someday, so be prepared. (grab as many suspension components at the junkyard as you can, so when and if you smack into something you can replace the snapped parts)
Thats all I have to say about that

yeah so i went last night, to LCR, and CCR(the dead end one) and it was fun, not very hard Rotary Dawg, on the way up i spun out, luckily i knew what to do, or else i would of ran into the side of the mountain, som eof those turns are very tricky and suprising....and YES i could of passed the RSX many times, but i dont want to cause a wreck and have someone fall down and go boom ya know? plus it was my first time so i kinda liked that the rsx was going slow, gotta take it slow and get a feel for it....haha on the way back up however i lead, and all i can say is that even the hooked up ek6 with full suspension and b16a couldnt keep up with me, he even tried to catch up and he failed....heh, i love it! however this makes me think a LOT more about safety and am planning on getting new pads, rotors turned, and SS lines...after i get my header/catback installed im savin for susupension and suspension ONLY!

I understand what you're saying. My friend got busted a few weeks back, for "unsafe speed" and an exhaust ticket. He contested it, and luckily the cop didn't show up in the Malibu courthouse. I agree that the "M" road is the worst place to go now...I heard that they now have cops hiding on either side of the very straight section - scary.
I dunno about LCR being "not hard" - I have been driving up there for quite a while now (2 yrs), and I am always extra-cautious. LF is FF cars' worst nightmare (haha)...that one 90 degree left downhill is friggin' scary. Just watch out and don't push it too hard. I think those guys on the "M" road website are crazy (if you know what I am talking about, great, if you don't, don't ask) - what they said about "saying goodbye and I love you to your love ones before you go" is farkin' NUTS. Driving is fun, but dying REALLY sucks, so think twice before going crazy on the twistes.

Brake fluid...I recommend Valvoline Synthetic DOT 4 - boiling point is 500+. Excellent value for money.
As for pads, the Porterfield R4S (carbon-kevlar) have STUPENDOUS stopping power. I have them on my vert, and I have never had a problem with them. Remember the vert is 3,500 lbs heavy - going downhill during touge with that kinda weight requires serious braking power, and these pads have served me well. Only complaint (or compliment, actually) is that they don't work as well as semi-metallic ones under normal working temp, but as soon as you push them, they become fantastic.

Make sure they are R4S, not R4. If you buy the R4 your rotors will be chewed up as fast as you can say "new rotors".
$116 for the fronts? Fark Mazdatrix for that. Go to stranoparts.com, I got mine (all four of them) for around $150 including shipping.

Surprisingly ive been using Raybestos Bendix semi metallics and theyve held up decently during hard touge runs

Probably a good thing for you though - I don't think that kinda mentality (that seem to surround those guys) is the right way to approach the "twisties".
