If not....
my 2nd and 5th gears are starting to whine , and I am in the market for a new tranny- this one has 160k on it..
ll I seem to turn up are turbos...they are stronger anyway, so could I/should I upgrade or seek another low mileage n/a?

you should've search -this question has been asked, answered, and beaten to death for a long time. but the answer is yes the tII tranny can bolt up to your n/a but you either have to change the whole driveline (driveshaft, diff, halfshafts) or get a custom driveshaft that will bolt up the tranny to the n/a diff. mazdatrix sells the driveshaft

Thanks, I think rx7 club needs to retool thier search mechanisms...i searched all sorts of combinations of tii and turbo tranny n/a swap bolt on blah blah blah....about 10 different ways, only found info on swapping manuals and automatics..
yet i don't have much time anymore on the internet to search, I get about 20 minutes a night if I am lucky, all i can do is check my email and respond mostly..
thanks for the quick reply

you will also require a new flywheel and clutch. the N/A flywheel is smaller diameter and has a raised side, the turbo flywheel is 3/4 of an inch larger in diameter and is flat. The input shaft is also larger on the TII transmission.

You don't even need to search. This is answered in the FAQ.

You'll also need the turbo starter to mate up to the rest (TII flywheel, etc.)

The faq, unfortunately, will not give me an opinion on whether it is a realistic goal that should be attempted or if it is just a pipe dream...pros and cons...
Also, the faq can't offer the occasional transmission for sale either lol..

so, i would need-
tii tranny/starter/flywheel/clutch/release bearing
and either a new driveline (impractical) or the mazdatrix driveshaft (preferred)

other than that- will the speedo bolt up? The shifter will mate? the flywheel will bolt up to the n/a ecc shaft? No new connectors or harnesses...

Really, I was thinking of getting that camden supercharger kit down the road- should I bother with this upgrade now or wait until later?
And how long do I have once my gears begin to whine before my car is rendered immobile? Should I just get a good N/A tranny for now? And if anyone has any for sale....
There's just some things faqs can't offer..thanks guys.

A supercharger is nice, but your plan sounds mighty expensive after buying each part. My advice is to get a t2 13bt , driveshaft and rear end. Those 3 things will cost less than the supercharger kit and some change. If you get a s4 t2 engine, jsut port out the wastegate as much as possible, or go with a s5 t2 turbo. I went s5 t2, ported the wastegate myself. I paid $160 for my to4 intake housings, turbine compressor, and backing plate. I got each part balanced for $25, some places cost more. Of course you need injectors, ecu, and its nice to have an intercooler. All those things your going to want with the supercharger too anyways. That is my budget setup

You might save some money, over buying a supercharger kit, piecing a flywheel, clutch, starter, tranny, and a custom driveshaft. Or t2 rear end and driveshaft. I beleive those supercharger kits cost a good amount , no?

ok..the TII trans will hook up to an N/A engine..the TII flywheel will fit on an N/A..then you put on a TII clutch.pressure plate.you need the TII Slave cylinder, and Also the starter...Make sure you get a new Pilot bearing and Throw out Bearing when you do this...OH..you will need a Conversion Drive shaft to hook up the TII transmission to the N/A Differential..Unless you change out the Driveshaft,Differential, and Half shafts and make them all TII too..(haha)...YES it has been done..I know..I did it!..oh..basically everything is "plug and Play"

Yes, about 2600 but the beauty of the kit is it is bolt-on, no modifications to the ecu or anything...
i thought about a t2 swap but I have been dissuaded by the idea that my ecu will need to be replaced and the s5 t2 ecu has a different dash connector than my s4 na. Also the boost sensor would have to be after market or I will have to install a new instrument cluster, which if I have to worry about all of that and tracking down a new engine getting it rebuilt and blah blah installed- I have less than 3000 on this new rebuild...plus, the na with boost will make more power than a turbo with the same boost because the rotors are higher compression, no?

BTW, if I want to port this engine out now, is it the same as a full rebuild? i.e. does the engine have to come all the way out and all the way back apart again? I dread that the answer is yes..

but anyhow, I was going to port it out and put some boost in it...grand ideas- my entire wishlist includes (to change without notice, stop me if I am going overboard)

new exhaust system (header and mufflers...shoud I keep emmissions or no?need opinions)
(maybe) 4-5 lug conversion, 4 piston calipers slotted brakes etc..
wheels and rims
electric fan (dont flame me, its to reduce my rotating mass and free up my rpms NOT for HP gains, and WITH A THERMOSTAT of course)
SAFC and injectors(need suggestions)
LSD
new coilovers
strut stabilizers
new bushings all around
drivetrain upgrade (ie tranny driveshaft diff half shafts bearings etc)
SUPERCHARGER (or intake manifold upgrade, perhaps aftermarket turbo)
porting
radiator/cooling/intercooler whatever
bodykit
seats
stereo
all the little ****...paint and blah blah blah
Its a daily driver right now, but one day it would be nice to be my "lets take the rex out to the track today"...kind of car ?8^)

thanks for your input guys, I have lots of opinions to ask of you since none of my peers seem to know what the F**K an rx7 even IS..
"WANKEL? what the hell is that??" I'm sure you understand..

I would not trust that they say the bolt in supercharger kit requires no ecu. Especially if your porting.

I would not worry too much about electrical fan on the rotary, stock fans outflow lots of fans, Most people's electric fans cant flow enough, but it looks cool. Veryt minimal hp gains, if any

Porting does not require a full rebuild, at least requires new coolant seals and tons of gaskets. your basically taking the engine apart for this, which is the best time to decide if u want new apex seals(highly recomeneded), and check out the condition of the housings and other engine internal parts.

There are a few threads on turboing the 6 port na engine, also. So yo might want to look into a t2 engine, turboing 6 port or supercharging 6 port

The s4 t2 uses a clutch type lsd that is pretty strong, but u could get an aftermarket one if u want. How much money are you planning on spending? You can donate some to me. Hee hee

Oh yeah, your probably going to want to ditch the emmisions equiment

I dunno...
I think its on www.camdensuperchargers.com
As I said about the electric, its not for hp, its for rev speed, free up some spin on the motor, lose some drag on the available power
BTW, just got new engine with RA super seals, that is why I am considering boost- they are recommended for HIGH boost engines. Also, running a premix, and going full synthetic throughout.
I dunno how much its going to cost, that's why its a long project, one step at a time, I only make 8.50 an hour (if I get that raise...) so we'll see. Hey, I may just trade this one out for a t2 if anyone is interested? NEW MOTOR....2k miles.

176 hp? So your gaining 36hp or so? For sure its not adding 176hp. No way can stock injectors handle 316hp

im sure you will get more power after porting, raising boost, fuel injectors, and some ecu tuning.

How can you say that in the same paragraph? That would be 2 sets of seals wasted when the apex seals crap out.

don't take the engine apart until you need to. buy a second to port and build as a direct replacement. reduce down time.

you need to re-read the camden site. The site sucks. Look for the supercharger pricing guide. Its now $5600 including TWM ITBs and a Microtech ECU.

Of course noone in the right mind would port and engine and jsut replace coolant seals, but if you really wanted to. You could. I gues this guy is claiming his engine is already rebuilt. Why throw new apex seals in an engine that is basically new?

No, check the site again, I've talked to the guy- you CAN spend 5600 if you want the big roots blower and all the accessories, the basic kit however is still just 2400 or something...
and yes, I have less than 3k miles on my brand new set of apex seals, actually on a full rebuild..

well if you go that route then i suggest you get a standalone and water/meth injection to cool that bastard down. Further the ITBs are bling components that should help with throttle response.
