turbo s4 rear on a s5 n/a?

i know what you need to convert the tranny to a turbo one. tranny, starter, halfshafts, driveshafts and the diff. I have a 90 gxl n/a and want to know if with these parts off a 87 turbo will bolt up fine.

also is there any advantage of a s5 rear end verses the s4?

A simple yes or no would be even better! But seriously. I actaully have pulled the drivetrain out of a '87 TII and put into my '89 GXL. I was told the S4 rear wouldn't bolt up but I don't see why it wouldn't. I'm curious myself. Anyways a TII rear would be stronger and have LSD.

I took the whole rear (subframe) off my TII and swapped it into my GTUs (turbo swap). Everything bolted up just fine and the install was as smooth as butter..

well i did try searching hence the reason i know what i need to make the tranny fit but i want to know if there are any advatiges of a s5 rear end vs s4 both turbo

and if a s4 rear end will bolt up to a s5

You could use a Turbo rear end in a non turbo, but...

It is heavier,

It will require a custom drive shaft,

It will require Turbo half shafts.

If you are thinking of using a Turbo tranny, it would require:

Turbo tranny
Turbo or Auto tranny starter,
Turbo clutch slave
Turbo drive shaft (if you are using a Turbo rear end as the title of the thread suggests- a custom drive shaft if you are using a non turbo rear end with a Turbo tranny.).

Is there any reason you want to do this??? Are you pushing more than 200/250 HP out of your motor???

it would be turbo driveshaft, tranny, diff, halfshafts, and a auto starter.....and i guess know clutch slave.... but they are from a s4 and i have a s5 is that ok?

and yes i am hoping to be pushing 350rwhp by mid summer next year. Just doing suspension, brakes, rust cleanup, and the misc stuff first. (body already has a custom widebody hehe) and would like to get these parts so they can be sent off to be rebuilt

Not to question your wisdom Icemark but I did what he's doing and I didn't need a custom driveshaft. The Stock TII shaft fit perfectly. Believe me krazy I did a S4 TII drivetrain swap in my S5. You will have to do everything Icemark said except the driveshaft thing. You may want the TII rear so that the shaft will bolt right up instead of having to mod the flange on your N/A rear. Don't forget TII flywheel and clutch. You might as well while you are doing the swap and are expecting to make lots of power. Maybe I did the driveshaft thing wrong I don't know. As far as I did it the shaft fit perfectly.

You didn't read the thread correctly

His title of the thread suggested just a Turbo rear end... which would require a custom drive shaft if he kept the non turbo tranny.

Yet his comments in the first post suggested that he was doing only a tranny swap, and leaving the non turbo rear end.

Both of which would require a custom drive shaft.

Only in replacing both the tranny and the rear end, would he not be required to use a custom drive shaft and would use a Turbo drive shaft.

Of course that is only if you read what he wrote and didn't jump to conclusions (which many non long timer people do on this board).

sorry for all the confusion guys but i understand the title may have been misleading but my post stats i wanted to swap tranny diff, halfshafts, driveshaft, and starter off a 87 turbo onto my 90 gxl.

So for the other part of my question is there an advantage of these parts off a s5 turbo vs the s4 turbo?

Huh? So everything but the tranny then? A TII starter won't work and you will need a custom shaft. Actually I believe you can (if you line it up correctly) drill new holes in the rear diff flange and use your N/A shaft.

No the S5 NA stuff is all weaker (but lighter) than the S4 Turbo Stuff. If you have the S4 tranny, drive shaft, diff, and half shafts then swap it all and be happy.

In the interest of simplicity, keep the whole driveline TII. There is no reason to mix and match parts if you have everything available!
