Turbo Rebuild..

Well since the "search" option isn't working i guess i will post here...

I'm looking at buying a 87 Turbo.. The guy says the motor runs fine and all but the turbo has an oil leak and needs to be rebuilt/replaced.

Can someone give me a ruff estimate of how much something like this would cost and where i could find a new turbo?
He was telling me i should replace it with a S5 turbo, or something like that? Should i or just replace with stock?

Thank you very much

s5 just is the turbo from the 89-91 models which have a better exhaust housing= more power. You can check on the forum in the for sale section and also try thepartstrader.com. S4's usually go for about $100 or so. s5's can go for about 350 with turbo and manifold which is needed when swapping.

$150 for parts - use a Garrett T04 rebuild kit; it's all the same parts.

Labor ranges from $200 - $500.

Uh, no. It doesn't make MORE POWER. It makes BETTER power. It's the same compressor housing and wheel, and that dictates power potential.

sorry, well it didn't mean to say it incorrectly, but the s5 is a better turbo and that's what I was trying to say.
