Turbo Question <<<PICS!
I had a hybrid turbo that had what looked like the same compressor and if it is that compressor and the turbo is good you should be very pleased with it at 15psi and i even got some boost creep to about 20psi and that thing was still producing power at the psi and didn't drop off at high rpms either. Good luck with it.

I dunno where you got that thing from, but I wouldn't touch it with a ten-foot pole...
The rust and crud on the outside implies it was abused or not taken care of very well.
If this was some kinda flood salvage, the internals are all rusted beyond use.
The way the spots on the compressor fins implies either the turbo was sitting with the compressor side up, or oil blew through the compressor section - dirty water or dirt would not settle like that in such a symmetrical pattern; the turbo in it's normal position would not allow dirt to settle like that.
EITHER OR is a red flag to me.
Good luck with the turbo.

The reason the compressor is rusted because it was sitting in my garage for the pass months... I don't know much about turbo's for me to argue about the subject, but from the guy i bought it from, he told me it was good, and if its garbage, then i guess that turbo is going back to him but basically find it on the hood of his car.. lol
But hopefully it works good, and thanks for the opinions from you guys!

Another reason for the rust would be the salt they put on the roads. That **** eats up everything. But that does look pretty nasty on the inside. I'd check for shaft play before Id even think about messing with it.

Oh yeah I totally agree with you there. We do alot of rebuilds on snow plows from out of state (Mainly NE where they get alot of snow) and most of the time (about 75%) there total junk. Mainly from chipped compressor wheels and way to much shaft play. But we had a couple that came in that the turbine housing had rusted all the way though and it was only a 2 year old turbo.
I wish I could find my damned book somewhere. Its basically an old school book that we used in diesel mechanics, tells about what all the specs should be, but of course it dosnt list like every single different turbo. Mainly just a quick reference. Ill see if I can find it and Ill post what it says. Its always good the RTFB.
