Turbo Question

Does anyone know if the Chevy or Ford turbo diesel trucks have T04E's or just T04 turbos on them. I was just wondering to see if I could find one at a junkyard cheap. Thanks

1) These things don't fit on the stock turbo manifolds.

2) A T04 turbo requires (at least) and HKS 13B turbo manifold that's going to cost close to $300.

3) Getting the fuel support and pipe and hose adapters to actually run a T04 turbo adds at least a couple GRAND more to this cost.

If you're thinking of trying to get cheap on this upgrade, it's going to bite you in the *** or cause your car to end up being a very big paperweight in the garage.

A proper T04 turbo upgrade is going to cost you at least $5,000.&nbsp A front mount intercooler has a lot to do with the added cost and is REQUIRED.&nbsp The fuel system is also the other big cost - the stock fuel injectors don't have enough capacity to support that kinda power (the stock fuel injectors 4x550 can barely handle 300hp at the "crank").

I'm not an idiot Ted, I know I need all that. I know I need bigger injectors and a front mount. I also know I need to order a manifold from HKS and I need an external wastegate for it as well. All I wanted to know was if the bolt pattern was the same as the T04 manifold bolt pattern. Sorry about the little rant, but I don't like being told things I already know and being treated like a dumbass. Thanks anyway.

The one on my brothers old 97 Powerstroke appears have an internal wastegate on it, and the A/R on the turbine housing is huge (like 1.32 or something like that).

I haven't checked his new 2002 one yet though.

All I wanted to know was that if the flange off the turbo was a T04 style so I can find one of those turbos,THEN go get a manifold.

That not entirely true. You can get away with a stock turbine housing and mate a T04E compressor housing to the car. This works!

2) A T04 turbo requires (at least) and HKS 13B turbo manifold that's going to cost close to $300.
Again, not necessarily true for the reason above.

A proper T04 turbo upgrade is going to cost you at least $5,000. A front mount intercooler has a lot to do with the added cost and is REQUIRED.
Nope. I'm running a T04E Turbo 57 trim with stock intercooler @ 14psi of boost. All is well.

The fuel system is also the other big cost - the stock fuel injectors don't have enough capacity to support that kinda power (the stock fuel injectors 4x550 can barely handle 300hp at the "crank").
True.

Ted, are you not studying anymore...
