turbo problems have some questions help please

alright so heres the deal im hoping i dont have to replace my turbo i dont think i can afford that but my car seems to lack in power quite a bit infact. and i my boost guage only goes up about half way. i think it would be about 25 x10mmHg and i checked my presure comming out of my intercooler as i was told to do and it was low very low. and then i was checking for leaks cause i dont have the time to take everything apart to get to the turbo i noticed that next to my pressure sensor is my variable resistor and it looks blown to crap. but im not shure of what its controlling i dont know what it does exactly i know what a variable resistor does i just dont know what this particular one does for the car. its right next to the pressure sensor any help, advice, experence, anything would be greatly apreciated. thank you.

Check the secondary throttle dash pot & cam.
It's supposed to slow down the rate the secondaries open.
Mine was stuck so the TB only could open part way.
I just removed the dash pot & cam.

Here is a write up about the dashpot readjustment by another forum member. It explains its function and how to check if it's working correctly.

What are your mods?

If you have a clogged cat it could be causing the loss of power.

Did you get a cat that was specifically made for rx7s? If you didnt there is a good chance that it could have already burned out.

Sorry about the confusion.
There are 2 dashpots on the turbo TB.
The one above is on the upper primay throttle shaft.
It just lets the throttle close easy.

The one I'm suggesting is on the lower secondary throttle- under the TPS assembly. There is a vacuum diaphragm hold-off and a slow opening control cam & dashpot on it.
It may be stuck shut like mine was.

This picture shows how easy it is to overlook the secondary throttle.
It's completely buried under the TPS.

To wire it open, I had to pull the alternator, to pull the TPS, to get in there.
I removed the lower dashpot, linkage, cam, & hold-off assembly.

You can just see it under the TPS stuff.
Manually open the primary throttle & see if the double secondary opens.
You will probably have to push back the cold engine hold-off diaphragm.

I wish the FSM had a better illustration, but you can find it in the manuals link in my sig below.
It's in the "Fuel & emmissions" section
