Turbo manifold gasket question

Okay, here it is,

Is there a difference between a turbo manifold gasket and an N/A manifold gasket. I want to know if I used a N/A gasket on a turbo would it be okay, I have spare n/a gaskets but no turbo gaskets. Will the turbo just melt it?

One is metal, one is composite. The turbo won't melt it (I've done it), but I would highly recommend getting the proper gasket. The turbo gasket is much stronger, and reusable. You CAN cut your own gasket out of copper if you have the patience.

Can I cut copper gaskets for the turbo to manifold and downpipe as well. They are pretty pricey form the dealer or similar. Project is already tight on budget. Is there a specific automotive copper gasket sheet I can buy?, or just go to a metal yard kind of thing. How thick?

Thanks Aaron

I've never tried it, but I don't see why not as long as it crushes...2MM is the usual thickness. Soft copper sheet from any metal supplier should do...Personally, by the time I cut al the gaskets, I would have just went out and bought them...

Thanks Aaron. You always pull through for me. I could care less about time, I have someone to help cut them too(its funny I make him cut all my gaskets). Its just for those 3 gaskets it would be over 100 dollars. If I cant find the copper I will try and use the N/A manifold gasket till I have more cash, as long as it won't leak. And than buy the other 2, its all the damn little things that kill the build total!!!!!!I guess its time to call around for some copper!!!!!!!!

Thanks again Aaron.

**** copper gaskets! Sorry for the harshness but I don't like copper at all. No matter how much I tried tightening them there where still exhaust leaks with the copper gaskets so I just used oem and no more exhaust leak. I still have the copper ones that where used for like 1 mile if you want I'll sell cheap. I have engine to manifold and manifold to turbo gaskets. I'll sell for 15 plus shipping for both.

Were your manifolds warped? Copper doesn't seal well in that case as the OEM gasket has a lot more "give".

I appreciate the offer but no thanks, I 'll just see what happens on my own, and if they don't work I will have to find more cheddar for the oem ones.

Proper copper gaskets work great... There are ones that have grooves to fit properly without leaks...

All I could find was 1mm sheets. Seems too thin. I guess I have to not be a cheap *** and shell out for the real ones. Probably be better off doing it properly in the first place instead of taking everything off again when it leaks!!!
