I got a new starter, but it's an 87 and my car is an 88. They look a little different, the "gear" housing that is.

Are they compatible?

 

it should be the same...NA and turbo starters are different though..

 

Yeah, I saw the difference between the N/A and Turbo firsthand when I went to local auto parts store.

I'll take a pic of the one I pulled out and post it up.

There is the pic of the starter I removed from the car

The "new" one I installed has metal all the from the left side of the yellow line (my |33t Paint skillz) and the gear is much closer to the top. Installed without a problem.

Any ideas?

s4 t2 starters are all the same, i think all s5 will work on the s4's, the automatic tranny starter will fit on the t2 also. N/a will not fit on any t2
