turbo II FULL swap

h guys i recently baught an 89 turbo II. the only problem is the body has lots of damage ie, small dents and a few large ones. the body also has some rust issues and miss coloured doors.

what i was wondering is if i buy an 88 rx7 (already have one in mind) will everything besides the motor swap over. idealy i would swap out the compleye interior because the turbo II is all black and lots of the suspension linkages because they are aluminum....

has anyone done this, and are ther any problems i may encounter.

if i do go throught with this i will be selling all the parts including engine and drivetrain off the non-turbo rx7 so feel free to give me an intrest reading if you want any parts.

If you strip the 88 down to nothing, yes EVERYTHING will swap over. Like a whole new shell. Plus, you will have the added benefit of manual seatbelts!!

Do it!!

thanks, thats the plan down to nothing...

i was also wondering if it's a huge benifate and simpler to swap out the rear end when i drop in the turbo engine and tranny

so i guess now if anyone is interested in any parts just to post so i know how quickly i can get rid of the rest of the car, being as i don't have that much room to stoor it... the non turbo car has about 155 thousnand km on it and i know the engine and drivetrain will need a new clutch, the old one was installe dcrooked and it's hard to shift.

If you keep the N/A rear end you will have to get the mazdatrix or a custom TII to N/A Rear End driveshaft.

The Turbo rear end is beefier and its not hard to swap out the whole sub frame, so thats probably the way to go.

Yeah, you can unbolt the whole subframe and roll it out, very easy. And you will want it simply because it has LSD, and is a little stronger.

ok one more question is there a major diference between the 4 lug hub and the 5 bolt hub, other than streingth..... will everything fron the 4 bolt bolt up to the five bolt stuff... ie rotor and hub to 5 bolt (turbo II) controle arms.

the reason i'm asking is because i have a set of motegi 17 inch rims but they are 4 bolt.

Ditch the 4 lug wheels. You want the 5 lug hubs. And the turbo has 4 piston calipers and overall better brakes. Sell the Motegi wheels to a Honda guy.

Its in your best interest.

5 Bolt TII have vented rear disk brakes, and wider calipers to fit. 5 Bolt also has 4 Piston front calipers as well as slightly bigger disks.

You should have turbo brakes on a turbo car.

In a nut shell, 5 lug = far better brakes.

PERFECT! a donor TII with everything you need! I suggest you drop the WHOLE subframe, do the 5 lug swap with the 4 piston brakes, and all the sensors. you can also take off the S5 moulding if you want to use them on your S4 along with the front and rear bumpers.

you might have to do some rewiring for the BODY electrical side so Download the FSM for both S4 and S5.

Good luck.

ok so i do have a fare sum of knowledge about cars, but with all this work is it alot more than i may be anticipating? mainly now i'm wondering if this is a job that can be done in my driveway, and how long is it going to take. so if anyone has done a swap like this or anything close what was the time leingth and did you need a hoist. (keep in mind i do have many of the basic tools, along with an engine picker, is ther any other specialty tools i may want to invest in?)

It can be done in your driveway. It really isn't that hard. Impact tools will help alot.

Go for it!!

Like Iceblue said, you can unbolt the subframes, keep the wheels on and roll them out from under the chassis. How easy is that!!

You can finish in about a week if you take your time to make sure everything is right. Sooner if you rush (but i'd do it slow if I had to do it again.)
