turbo II engine

ok I know lots of people have asked if a turbo II engine fits in an NA but all the threads have arguing and its never clear if it works or not. so I would just swap the whole drive train from the TII but my dad thinks thats to expensive so im thinking if I can hook up the engine to my tranny by just changing the flywheel or something I could do that and then when the tranny blows I could go get the rest of the tII drive train and put it in.

so Is it possible to put a TII engine in an NA without changing the tranny? remember I dont care if my tranny blows after a month or so. Please if your not 100% shure your awnser is correct dont even bother saying it

What about the ECU? You'll have to get that to run the TII.

yes it is possible, but you would almost definetly blow your tranny and/or rear end. plus, you would have to go back and replace the rear end and tranny anyway when you blow it. also, you should be able to sell what you don't destroy. so you'd save yourself time and money by getting everthing at first.

Yep, better to get the entire drivetrain first.. Find a wrecked TII and take out everything from the motor to the brake rotors, you'll be a lot better off.

engine control unit? I think? its the main computer taht runs the engine

its located under the passenger side dash, under the floor board. if you pull back the front of the carpet on the pass side, there will be a metal cover, which covers the ecu. if you unbolt that, you will see the ecu. its a box that has a sticker on it, and a bunch of big plugs and wires going to it.

thanks for all the help but I have 1 more question before I buy this engine. My car is an 86 NA, and the engine is from a series 5 TII (im not sure what year) how much re wiring will I have to do or is it just basicly put the engine and ECU in then its basicly plug and play. like do all the connecters fit or will I have to get a bunch of wiring frome the TII?

id suggest getting a completely new wiring harness and try not to do to much fabrication.. chasing wiring bugs REALLY SUCKS

umm...... there was a big part about that on the link I gave you.

here's the main part:
You can use an 89-91 engine in a car with 86-8 wiring, but youll have to also use 87-8 fuel injection wiring and sensors as well because the 89-91 wiring harness for the engine will NOT plug into the wiring that exists in the car unless you're willing to change out every single wire. This means changing the front cover and throttle body to keep the older car's mechanical oil metering pump, using the older style TPS, fuel injectors and wiring harness, water thermo sensor, etc. etc. IF you go this route(different series engine than the NA version that was in your car) you'll also have to find the proper flywheel for the new engine. IF you get an 87-8 turbo engine you can use an 86-8 flywheel on it, and if you get an 89-91 engine you can use an 89-91 NA flywheel on it, but they are not interchangeable, because they were weighted different between series.
does that answer your question?

Check the 2nd gen archive for threads on swaps or turbocharging your NA.

Serious, if you are not even familar on the car itself, I wouldn't even attempt to do the swap.

I am in the process rite now.
If you are planning a swap for your series4 NA, you'll need
Wiring harness
ECU
TII engine and all accessories
TII brake booster (difference Vacume between NA and TII)
TII fuel pump
TII Boost sensor
...
Just to name a few...
good luck.....muuahahahahahahaahaha

hey, now that I read my post, I realize I kinda sounded like an ***. sorry about that.

bascially, to put a S5 TII engine in your car, you'd need to get all that crap from a S4 TII engine. I don't think that crap from a S4 N/A would work, but I may be wrong.

.only will the tranny go if u drop the clutch and be silly with it.all u have to do is change flywheel
whats the point in having a turbo if you can't be silly with it?
