turbo II is the 2nd gen turbo version

87-88 is 182hp 89-91 is 200hp

similar engine to yours but only single turbo.

around a 15sec 1/4 mile stock. not as fast as a 3rd gen stock.
but will last longer

Well Turbo II S4 182HP
Turbo II S5 200HP
E/T 14.7 to 15.2
You 255HP do the math
E/T 13.5 to 14.1

I've heard that there are some 86.5 TII's floating around. It could certainly be true..

yup, all 2nd gens are 13b's. TII came out in 87 - 92. if u do plan on buying that car, make sure u have the paperwork on the rebuilt motor. with buying a TII for a little less than 3 grand and adding in another 5 in mods, its eay to have a fast car.

Thats a great deal!!

Basically, The 3rd gen will beat the Turbo II easily. 0-60 in about 6.5 seconds stock vs. about 5. Quarter mile of about 15.0 vs. high 13s.

Turbo IIs are great cars. They are cheap, pretty fast, and handle very well. However, if you own a 3rd gen I think you can be happy with a Turbo II, but certainly the 3rd gen would be better.

A good condition Turbo II usually runs about $3000-4000 for an 87-88, and $3500-5000 for a nice 89-91.

Any other questions? Feel free to ask us !

the 2nd gen RX-7(FC) is an awesome car. it can be right on par with your 3rd gen with the right mods. FD will pretty much always handle better though. 2800 is a pretty good price for a T2. as long as it runs right id say get it.

Why is it exactly that the S5 has almost 20 HP more than the S4?

Higher compression rotors, and more boost stock.

My build date is 3/86 but if you read the 10th digit in the VIN it is an '87 model.

well the TID looks the same on both cars but the afm on the s4 has a door compared to the s5 wich has a push type valve and look like it can flow more, the s4 has a thicker front anti roll bar, the s5 has an electronic boost control solenoid with a wastegate set to 5.5 psi but the boost soleniod controls it to run 8. the turbo isnt a twin scroll on the turbine housing and the manifold isnt as likely to crack the wheels on the s4 are 13 pounds heavier, the flywheel on the s4 is 7 pounds heavier than the s5, theres a shorted throw for the s4 i've seen an s4 and an s5 race that were similairly modded, filter, 2.5dp with straight pipe to a flowmaster and one to a dynomax straight through muffler and they were even until the end of 2 when the s5 started to pull, but the turbo doesnt hold boost past 6k it drops off to 4 by redline but can peak around 16psi
