I don't understand, why would you do this?
The turbo is designed to be water cooled as well as oil cooled. In the short term you can probably remove the water cooling as long as you don't beat on it, but in the long term it should be water cooled.

To the funny guys: STFU. Misleading info like this could actually be taken as serious, by someone less experienced. A broken car on the side of a highway has cost people their lives. It's also against forum rules. Take your funny to the lounge.
OP, what Aaron said. Or post a 'Wanted to Buy' ad in the Canadian Section, take the pipe to a machine shop, welding place, even exhaust place, or fork over the money to Mazda.

If you are blocking off the coolant return, you may need to block the coolant feed on the LIM with a split air pipe blocking plate. I wouldn't worry about any reduction in turbo life in the short term. It's probably so old that the bearings are nearly shot anyway. I have personally seen Mitsubishi 16G turbos run for a couple thousand miles with the water cooling blocked off. You're not doing the turbo any favors, but it's not going to instantly kill it either.
The primary purpose of the coolant is to cool the bearings after the engine has shut off, as explained here in this twin turbo Taurus SHO training program.
