Turbo Coolant Issues...
Alright, so I'm in the middle of a TII swap and I just got my fmic in. I'm curious though as to what sort of fluid the turbo uses...
Is it oil or antifreeze cooled and if it's oil cooled will royal purple coolant be worth the buy over the nameless brand, and what weight should I be using?
It's an '86 GXL with and S4 TII swap, stock set up for the turbo and such...
Any info is greatly appreciated,
Thanks,
Scott

the stock turbos (s4 and s5) are both wet (oil and water cooled).
royal purple is good stuff, but there are huge debates over synth and dino oil in these turbos as well as rotary engines. some will say to use one while others say to use the other. im not goin to make a recommendation for fear of starting a post war, you can use that search button up top and come to your own conclusions. good luck with the swap btw.

the oil and coolant that go into the turbo just branch off from the main oil and water system, AKA you just fill the coolant and oil into there proper places (oil goes into the oil fuller neck, collant goes into the coolant filler neck). there is not a separate fill for the turbo.

Thank you so much!
Alright, first off thank you to:
Touch
Khan
and Go 48
I'm very new to the whole turbo thing... My goal was 250hp N/A S4 but projects change eh? Oh well.
I've also bought an fmic for the turbo set up because I don't want a TII hood, I'm trying to go as sleeper as I can with the RX. Oxymoron I know...
I just want to be sure though, nothing but air flows through the intercooler right?

im glad you did, cuz you would never have gotten that except with some pretty hefty port work and a dip in reliability
if everything goes right, yes.
