turbo conversion

alright, i have heard some things about how hard a turbo conversion is, but no real details. I would like a t2 but if i could build one that would be great. some questions that i need answered is:

are their kits?
is the 13b combression ratio diffrent on the t2?
do i really need to change trannys?
what should be upgraded?

I'll probably start ground up with a shitty non turbo, get a new engine (ported of corse) and start there.

any suggestions?

thanks

ok, I'm a real newbie with every little cash, i konw i can find a rx-7 for very little, but cant i just get a t2 engine and bolt it on the same mounts as the NA?

if i got a new enginem i would need the turbo assembly and i would find that at a junk yard?

also arnt there font mounted innercollers for the t2?

btw, what is in the turbo assembly?

thanks

PS: I'm trying to create a ~300 hp turbo gen 2

alot of questions i wil answer a couple. Yes you can swap the TII engine into an N/A along with that to do it properly you will need the TII drivetrain. The front mount intercooler is just for aftermarket use. Stock they come with Top mount intercooler.

Turbo assembly would require oil lines, turbo manifold, spacer for n/a engine....

Hope this can help you!

You can buy complete 'long block' J-spec T-II engines for around $850. Thats how I got mine. It came complete with everything just as it had been cut out of the car. The intercooler, turbo, injectors, intake manifold were all on it. The wiring harness was even there. It was just cut at the fire wall. It will directly bolt in to an n/a. Here the bad part: either get a T-II computer and wiring harness and take the time to rewire it or get a Haltech or the equivalent. This adds to the cost greatly and afte you are done you still won't be near your 300 HP goal. The n/a drivetrain also isn't as strong as the T-II drivetrain. It can be abused pretty well but the clutch is a definite weakness. Either buy a T-II or be prepared to spend alot of money on an n/a based car. T-II's aren't that hard to find. My friend is about to sell his '88 T-II for about 5K or so. It has the '89 body upgrades, '89 turbo and only 65K original miles!!! Beautiful red car. That is a steal for a low mileage T-II. He used to have a T-II that he bought for $1200. It needed some body work but it ran good. If you look hard enough you'll find one at a good price.

really, the entire engine for $850!!! wow, i have not seen that anywhere... that would cut costs a lot. well for 300 hp i know it need a LOT of work, thats why i was thinking about just getting the engine and aftermarket parts (injectors, turbo, fuel system, etc) but that would be a lot more work right?? i mean i have all the tools (minus an engine jack) and time should not be a problem, but skill is not there... I'm a pure newbie.

I would like to get a T2 but they start at 3-5K. And at the moment 5-6K is my budget(until this summer). If i get an N.A i could strip it, sell the parts and start from scratch. also the insurance would see it as a n/a and not the t2

if i can find a messed up t2 for about 1K I'll take it, but they are no where to be found.

thanks
PS: is 300hp a lot to ask for?

300 hp isn't alot to ask for even on a stock block. With the factory turbo that is a very tall order though.

i figured by the time 300hp was reached, the only thing from the t2 sould be the core, the rest of the engine would be aftermarket. what is a feasible number for the stock turbo 250?

Thanks

You can get 250 out of it. Actually a little above that. I am referring to power at the wheels so 300 at the crank is pretty close.
