Tunning: NA vs Turbo

How much different is it tunning an NA vs a TII?

I know with turbo you want to have the AFRS somewhere in the high 10's to low 11's under load/boost. How about NAs? Same? Or can you run it leaner mid 12's becaue it is not force inducted?

Also how much power can you extract from an NA with proper tunning?

These are very broad questions and can't really be answered straight like I expect you want.. Generally speaking you can run an NA leaner than you would Turbo motor.. Give us more specifics and I'm sure someone can help.. maybe even me.

You definately do not want 10-11 AFR's in an n/a. You can go much leaner in an n/a without a problem, like high 12's to low 13 a/f ratios are fine. I've seen people go as lean as 13.5 when dyno tuning with an s-afc. Safest would be more like the high 12 to low 13 range, but personally when I was dyno tuning I went for 13.2 across the board with no problem.

I aim for 12.0 on my turbo 6-port monstrocity.

Broad answers are fine!

My S4 TII is kinda weird, I was running about 8 psi and the AFRS in the mid were low 11's now its running about 6psi and the AFRS are 11.8 up to 5k then drops to low 11's high 10's.

Just out of curiosty does any one have or remember the stock AFRS in an NA? NA's are less prone to detonation because of being NA, right? Which allows you to run higher AFRs and extract more power from the stock setup..

dDUB, what kind of power are you seeing stock vs tuned? And do you repember the Stock AFR readings?

When I was dyno tuning my actuators were not working which I did not know at the time. Power and a/f ratios were really screwed up because of that and I had no idea why. Later I figured out what was wrong. Since then I tweaked my s-afc settings by butt-dynoing and using an a/f ratio gauge. I have no idea what my a/f ratios are right now but what I did was safe so it's ok. No idea on stuck numbers, but I'm sure its in the low 12's based on what corrections ppl use when tuning on near stock setups.

And yes, n/a's are less prone to detonation because they are n/a, you can go pretty damn lean on them.

Boosted motor needs to run more fuel to ward of detonation.
NA motors can run leaner because of no boost.
