Tuning an S5 TII

So I'm about to come into ownership of an S5 TII and have been reading up on what I'm going to need to dial it in affordabley. A fellow forum member makes nice looking gauge pods for the radio area that can hold 3 52mm gauges and I'm wondering what i should fill those with. I know I absolutely need a boost gauge and I've decided on going with an Lm-1 wideband with a gauge, so what should I throw in the next whole? Do I need an EGT if i have a wideband? I've searched but haven't found much info on the actual tuning process. I haven't decided if I'm going to take the dive and go with a megasquirt or if I'm just going to start with an safc2.. but could someone please breifly explain what the process involves and what I'll be needing to look at? Thanks, sorry for the noobish question.. =)

Note: I owned an NA for a year or so and knew that car pretty well, but the dark side is quite new to me!

Why not run your boost and AFR on the A Pillar like everybody else? Then use those other 3 for maybe Coolant Temp, Oil Temp/Pressure, and EGT. Sound good? And I wouldn't waste the money on a piggyback like the SAFC... that money would be a good start towards a stand-alone.

EGT is decent aid for tuning in telling you whether your timing is severely advanced or retarded.

here is a guide to get you the basics of the tuning process:

I had no idea what everyone else ran, but that makes the most sense to me. Thanks for the info! And yeah, I'd like to run the other three where you said, but I don't think I want to spend that much money up front on gauges. I guess I'll just run boost and AFR in the A-pillar, the EGT in the center and leave two wholes open for awhile..

Karack, that site is great, exactly the resource I needed, thanks!

More gauges = better

if they are digital with memory even better

I run 6 gauges and every of them proved to be worth of having already.
(water temp, oil temp, oil pressure, fuel pressure, boost, EGT)
