Tune Up Ideas

Well, i scowered the forums pretty hard, couldnt find anyting i didnt already know... Just took my 7 to the dealership to get an etimate for a tuneup.... would be like 500 dollars... so im just gonna tune it myself... but other than new plugs/wires, fuel filter, oil filter, air filter, etc... what are some good things to tweak/tune/replace??? Whats the optimal tune up for an 88 na?

tranny fluid, muffler bearings, clutch fluid, brake fluid, check for cracked vacuum hoses and replace as necesary, thermostat, flush the radiator, and if you really want to do a good job you might want to have the injectors taken out and cleaned. Im sure there are other things.

Oh, and gaskets!

500 bucks, what a ripoff. Don't do it.

In addition to the good suggestions above check and replace:

Upper/lower radiator hoses
Heater hoses
Distributor Cap and Rotor
Valve cover gasket if leaking
Timing chain and timing chain cover gasket
Adjust the valve lash
Check the points and gaps and don't forget the dwell angle
Rotate your wheel bearings
Drain and replace the air in tires
Drop oil pan and visually check crankshaft bearings

That's all I can think of for now. Hopefully others will add to my list.

Oh almost forgot. Do NOT USE synthetic windshield wiper fluid in your car. Mazda rotary powered cars can only use non-synthetic windshield wiper fluid.

Check your Pusation Damper. They are known to crack, and thus leaking fuel onto the engine. The car proceedes to BBQ itself. Check it.
