Trying to make it to ROTORJAM this weekend...in need of help
Ive already searched under various phrases and im still stumped. I cant seem to pinpoint this very frustrating issue seriously frustrating. It happened on thursday, I was on my way back to my girls house and Im exiting off the highway and pulling up to a light so i cruise it in neuatral. All of a sudden i feel the car shaking pretty ugly and my idle is horrific mind you it was at a solid 800 for like the past whatever months. Long story short i went to sleep and dealt with it in the morning. As of now it sounds like a vacum leak with a f*ck*n attitude, it hisses REALLY loud, also kind of flutters, i can hear clicking too and it surges like hell at idle. I have to start it up like 5 or 6 times in the morning until i can get it warm enough to hold an idle on its own but it always sounds like it wants to die on me.
The only thing Ive done to it recently was put on the RB streetable header and presilencer and wrap it(temporary, i know). Ive checked for exhaust leaks because i can somewhat hear it from the front now a little but dont seem to find any. I checked compression again. Ive re-tightened all the header bolts and the ones on the presilencer, they have brand new gaskets. Ive checked for vacum leaks with carb cleaner but have come up with nothing..maybe im not doing it right or something. Last night I even pulled of the UIM to make sure none of the hoses were cracked or loose under there, put extra support on the injector clips, checked spark plugs, wires, and coils both leading and trailing. My trailing coils are both almost on their last leg but they are still firing. I even tightened the LIM bolts too...I just have no idea what it could be Im really stumped here. Its a 91 NA with really good compression numbers, mainly stock besides that, just got the sleeves removed cause one of the actuators are stuck.

I'm leaving right now but ill check up on the thread a little later. Just wanted to mention that the car drives pretty much fine throughout the whole rpm range, just a "tad" bit weaker sort-of but pretty much the same. Its only at idle where it does the shaking and everything.

Sorry I know the first post was pretty long but I already stated that I checked my compression once again after this problem and I checked the plugs wires and also coils....but thanx for the input anyways

/\ yea I already checked the intake hose/clamps/AFM. I even cleaned the AFM plug and connector with that electric cleaner spray. I adjusted the TPS about 2 months ago but it actually made things worse so I just set it back to the way it was/is and its been fine. I know my TPS is most likely bad and I need a new one but all its given me was just a slight hesitation between idle(800) and 1100. I even unplugged it to see but it still runs all messed up. It sounds like a steam engine the way its hissing. Could an exhaust leak really have this much effect on my idle/partial throttle?...I wish I had a video to show you guys

no it shouldnt i ran my car for 10 min with just the exhaust manifold and it ran fine just loud as hell.
so i would say no but some one with more experience might say otherwise.

Also I can hear ticking pretty loud. Sounds the way injectors do just amplified or like when you take a wire off a coil to see if there's spark...that kind of ticking. Don't know if it helps but I'm trying to provide as much info as I can. Thanx again guys.
Also, where the mods at?

Found the issue guys!
After lots of frustration I decided to just tear the motor down to the block and replace all vacum lines, clean injectors, re-seal everything up with gaskets/sealant and just clean everything up while im there you know. So I started at work last night...pulled of the UIM, then when I pulled the LIM, it turns out that the front most actuator arm dislodged itself from the manifold/actuator and was just loose in there leaving a whole the size of a pen. This would most definately be the reason it was hissing so loud. The scary part is that I removed the sleeves a while back...I dont know if it could but if the arm would have found its way into the housing then it would have been bye bye to half my motor. Anyway, just wanted to share some pics... sorry about the size and quality though, they were taken from my cell at work with not alot of light.
