Unhappy is it true?

i have head plenty of hear-say that if there is an exaust leak on a rotory engine, a massive loss of compression will b the end result. i also need help to determine wut EXACTLY is wrong with my 86 rx7. it seems to act like it will not crank for ANYTHING. and it DOES have an exaust leak. the starting problem started the day the exaust leak happened. is this purly coincidence? HELP!!!!

no, an exhaust leak wont cause any loss of compression they aren't related at all. it is coincidence!

Exhaust leaks won't result in compression loss.

Start by doing a compression check.

This is just my .02 but if the leak was before the o2 sensor wouldnt it fool with the computer in the car and make it run oddly. I am no expert but hey you never know alot of wierd stuff has happened to me

It could just be a dead engine. Check the compression with a gauge and find out

First you said that it doesnt crank, then you said it sounds like no compression. So if you meant that it doesnt start, then do the compression test and hopefully you can rule that out.

Now I dont know if I am right or not (could be coincidence) but when I got my RX-7 it had 1# no compression in the rear rotor, 2# clogged cat, 3# exaust leak. It is my understanding that the clogged cat cooked the rear seals (which was where the problem was) and I also understand that a clog in the exaust will cause the exaust gases to look for a different way out, causing a leak.
