Troubles Setting Timing

I have been trying to get my timing correct for a while now and I have done a lot of searching and I have been able to identify what is TDC...

Now I have two questions
1)When I am rotating the CAS and I clock it all the way to the firewall, I believe I am Advancing the timing. Is this correct?

2) When I am restabbing the CAS to jump a tooth, and I rotate it counter-clockwise, I believe I am Advancing the timing. Is this correct?

I have been trying to get my NA-to-T2 rebuild started (all deletes performed) , and I have confirmed spark, fuel, and good vacuum, so the only thing that I have left is to get the timing right. So in my hunt for timing, I just want to be sure that I am rotating the CAS in the direction that I believe I am.
Thanks, any other is appreciated.

Are you using a timing light? Are you also pulling the cas cap off to hold it steady when stabing?

I'm kind of a solo show at the moment, so I'm unable to check via the timing light. And CAS cap is off, so I am able to hold it still as I restab it.

You can adjust the cas while holding a timing light. If you're not using a timing light just stop what your doing and get one

if you are on your own, you can set the timing statically
in the CAS cover there is a little plastic plug, remove it.
put the engine on TDC.
install the CAS so one of the big teeth is centered in the hole in the CAS cover
and you're done!

once its running you should recheck, but it'll be within a couple of degrees

I thought setting the CAS to TDC was matching the notch towards the bottom of the CAS with the dimple on the gear and stabing it in place while the motor has been rotated to TDC.
Is that not correct?

i don't know, it needs to end up with the big tooth in the CAS cover hole.

That is the correct way to do it. You need to set the engine to TDC, remove cas cover, line the cas marks up( don't get the mark confused with the pin), and while stabing hold the cas steady. The cas will want to turn but you need to hold it steady. After all that you can start the engine and CHECK IT WITH A TIMING LIGHT. When you remove the cover and line up the cas pay attenion to where the cas gear is. Thats where it should still be after stabing.

Thanks for confirming the process. I have not been able to get the car to start yet, but I do have a timing light ready once I get to that point.
