trouble removing a seat

One of my seat bolts if completely rusted and the 14mm socket keeps slipping when trying to loosen it. I've tried penetrating lube and got nothing. Any ideas how to get this bolt off so I can replace it?

Do you have a drumell. Cut a deep slice in it and use a hand held impact on it, sold real cheap at Sears.

Maybe try a 13? Maybe try a crescent wrench... those sockets can really wear down the heads of bolts. The dremmel idea above might work. I'd try these first though... and lube the heck out of it and let it sit for a few hours, maybe overnight.

For an FC3S, the bolts are M10 (1 inch long will do, with a washer) with a 125 pitch, fine thread. You can use an "easy out" to get that out. Basically you drill a hole into the center of the bolt and use the "tool" to thread in (reverse thread) and remove it.

And definitely go get a can of PB Blaster and use that on the bolt to loosen it. Spray it on (heavily) and leave it overnight to give it time to penetrate.

Also heating the bolt with a torch may help (but watch out if it's covered in penetrating oil - keep a fire extinguisher handy).

If the bolt's pretty rounded off (ie. you are getting no byte out of any socket or wrench) you can try a large pair of vice grips or channel locks. I would definitely try this before slotting or drilling the bolt.

Good luck,

-b

Same, use the vise-grips before cutting that bolt off.

Or get one of these, http://www.xtraktortools.com/ , it works great

I had the same problem. I found it acually very easy. Hammer on a "snug" fitting 12point socket, or one of those "metwrinch" style sockets and definatly use an air impact gun. the hammering action breaks the rust and turns the bolt, where using a standard wrench or ratchet tend to just round the head worse.

PB blaster is not flamable so if you use that your safe with a torch...except for the carpet...id try vise grips...they have saved me many..many a times..
