Is this trash or still usable?

So, I have some housings but I'm not too sure if the flaking is acceptable. Can someone chime in and let me know if they're still ok? These pics aren't the best. My cam sucks ****.

I can't tell jack ish by looking at your pictures even on my 21" widescreen monitor. Based on what you did circle I would say certainly not.
Looks like someone used some rotaryaviation apex seals on the last build...that, or they had a coolant seal motor that they let water sit in for too long.

Is there a difference from the front housing vs the rear housing other than one is stamped F and the other R?
I read there was because of the EGR ports, but I can't see any differences at all between the two housings.
Does it really matter when rebuilding an engine.
I have two motors and out of the two I was able to salvage 2 good housings. They were both stamped "R" for rear. I've been told that the engine may work but may not pass emissions
Both motors are S4 13bt's

All you have to do (even if you want to pass emissions) is plug the one hole and drill out the other side. Look at your front rotorhousing and notice which side the passage is drilled on. The rear housing will have it drilled in the opposite place.
