transplant 88T2 motor into 87T2 chasis question

i need some advice from the gurus here.
i want to transplant an 88T2 motor into an 87T2 chasis. my question is because they use different impedence injectors, do i retain the 87T2 engine harness or can i just use the 88T2 harness.

87T2 has blown motor but excellent interior and 120K on chasis.
88T2 has great running motor with 105K on engine/chasis & salvg title. i can't get the gauge cluster to work. can't get it to work = no smog = no regristration.

already have the engine/tranny out of the 87T2. just making sure i don't hit a snag later if i can clarify now before engine goes in.

anything will help.

you can use either harness. just make sure you use the injectors that go with the harness. other than that, just drop the motor in, bolt everything up and roll. the ECUs don't matter either since they're both from an S4 TII.

You will have to keep the injectors witht he harness it was originally born with. Pull the harness through the firewall and bring everything over, block, harness, ecu, injectors sensors... That way you dont need deal with redoing gaskets and its a real drop in afair

i was wondering about the injectors becacause i have a pair of high impedence 720s for my 87T2. i'd have to sell those and grab some low impedence for the 88T2 engine right? gotta check prices for the 720 low impedence then...probably easier to buy new injectors then deal with the incompatible 720s.

why don't you just get the gauge cluster working?

Why the hell does smog need it to work anyways?

well it'll have to pass the visual then the smog. they check all the lights and gauges then do the engine visual then the actual smog. california, gotta love it.

another thing you have to look for is whether your car is pre 87.5 or not. If it it pre, you'll have a resistor pack that will be chillin underneath the airbox. You can eliminate it if you use the 88 harness/ECU...

AFAIK, the 88 ECU is set for 'saturation' low impedance injectors where as the pre 87.5 is 'peak and hold'....

I hear that there is a noticeable difference when using once ecu with the other's injectors but i can't verify it...

I'd just use the 88 harness/ecu if you have it...it's really easy to swap over.

alright funkspectrum, that sounds like the best and easiest method. i work like crazy so i don't have much time to work on it. i'll go check its production date.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought the 87.5 and older models used low imp. injectors. The 88+ used high imp. If this is the case and you were/are using high imp. injectors in the 87 then then your harness should be the same and the 88 motor can use the 87 harness and you can drop the 720's in.

This is if I remember correctly.

hey chue

just rip the 88 motor out with the harness (disconnect it form the firewall) and include the resistor pack, put it in the 87, and just hook the harness back up, thats it!

oh what are you doing on monday? i got a new number, but ill give you a call then, i want to show ya my new tires! and fart can
