Transmission Spring

I haven't really read much on this but my mechanic told me to install the lateral spring for the shift **** you have to drop the transmission. I'm installing a new bushing set already and was wondering if there was ANY way to install that spring without dropping the tranny?

sucky, any way on explaining why you have to drop the tranny? kinda makes me upset that this little spring needs such a big job to be seated.

imagine tranny being made from 3 big parts - rear (shifter area), middle (gears) and front (bellhousing)

u have to separate rear from rest of transmission (6 or so big bolts) to be able install new spring

You need to remove the back to replace the rear seal right Higgi? So he'll have to replace that seal while he's at it...

to replace the real tranny seal you just need to be able to remove the driveshaft

At one time I had 9 1st and 2nd gen trannys in the basement. Only one had an unbroken spring. They honestly shift fine without them.

It's a lot of work for one little spring.
