transmission problem wont go into reverse
ok i have a problem shifting into reverse, it wont go in when in nuetral or when the car is off or rolling or anything, it doesnt grind into it like if it were a spinning gear.
it just doesnt do anything it acts like theres no gear there at all, all the gears work fine,
i have been able to bump it and it seems like the gear just doesnt line up right and it kinda makes an odd ta tink noise. not a grrrrrr noise.
5th gear works fine though
this is a turbo ii tranny with 80k on it.
i was thinking the gear itself or the synchro but neither of those really make sence due to 5th and reverse are on the same rod? stumpppppped
lemme know what you think. its 50 for a new gear, and 50 for a new synchro.

yea mine wont go in no matter what, i pulled the short shifter out and jiggled around everything, tried revving the car, tried letting off the clutch so it would clunk it, theres nothing getting it in. synchro or gear??

any problems going into 5th at all? ever had problems with it, cuz sometimes its the 5th sychro that fs up and gets all mangled up and the reverse dosent work. thats why allot of times its both 5th and reverse that go at the same time. From what i understand reverse dosent have a synch of its own. another thing it could be a bent shift fork..... i got that last one of the internets a long time ago when i was trying to fogure out what was wrong with it.

no like not at all, grinds a little on the free way havent tried putting it in gear at high speed yet, i just know itll slide into 5th and there is NO POSSIBLE WAY to get it in reverese. the whole different gear stuff doesnt work, it rams 2 gears together in the transmission casing.

I did what this guy did when this happened to me, put it in fifth and slam it into reverse, always worked.

Omg, just watched the rest of that video, when hes checking the lights i REALLY dont think its in gear, so dont do that, it will grind like hell and is just tripping the reverse light.
