Exclamation Transmission problem… PLEASE HELP!!!

Well… it just started to happen… but when the car is cold I can shift into every gear with ease… but as soon as I go on the highway and I am in 5 gear for like 30 or more min.. I can’t put it into first or second… its like I cant get it over far enough so I can… it only will go into 3 or 4…. But after a while of just sitting there… maybe 3 min…. I can out it into 1 again… so I don’t know what the problem could be… it only seems to be doing this lately and only coming out of 5 gear.. I can ride in 1, 2, 3, or 4 and be fine… but 5 gear… is when everything seems to happen…. So yea…. What would the problem be???

Thanks…

Clutch master or slave cylinder. Check and see if they are leaking any fluid or at least bleed the slave cylinder and see if your problem persists. You might also want to check the soft clutch line going to the slave cylinder from the hard line.

My car was doing the same thing a while back and after replacing them both all my tranny problems went away. I think it cost me about $120 after shipping and doing the work myself.

Well, that might not be a bad idea, but i'm not sure it will fix your problem. The problem with my car was the clutch was not fully disengaging when I pushed it down so the transmission would not disengage itself from the motor, hence making it hard to shift gears. Sometimes when I would sit at stop light with the clutch depressed it would slowly start to go into gear and I'd have to throw it into neutral really quick and pump the clutch up to get more pressure. Then i'd be fine.

The thing is, the internal seals inside the cylinders could be going bad and your not transferring as much pressure as you should to the clutch making it hard to shift.

Lastly, you could just have a bad tranny. I say make sure your master and slave cylinders are OK and then move onto the tranny. Swap them out with some low mileage junkyard ones or some from a friends car and see if it improves.

alrighty... im thinking it could be my TOB ... cuz everytime I go straight to reverse It grinds... but if I go to first then reverse its fine.... I dont think my clutch is... but I will for sure check out my master and slave.... I am hoping its nothing to big..> I just got the car on the road and was having tons of fun driving it....

i think its most likely the master and slave cylinder. my 7 did the same exact thing. TODAY my master cylinder finally gave out on one of the busiest streets in my city... the mechanic at tire kingdom (my job) claimed it was the slave cylinder, (but i ordered both slave and master) and it turned out to be that the inner seals of both the master and slave cylinders were bad. 184k miles

if you notice that the car seems to get harder and harder to shift or to even put it into first gear, reverse, and your clutch just happens to not want to go back up. one of the components is not working properly

it is getting harder to shift into gear... also when I go straight to reverse it grinds sometimes.... I have to go to fisrt then reverse then it is fine.... so far this whole gear thing has only happened twice... but then again I havn't been on the highway in awhile... i just did a tranny oil change... I put this lucas oil in... ill see if that helps out at all.... my car only has 154000 km .. how much is a master and a slave cylinder??

Same kind of issues, I s'pose. Reverse grinds like a mother ******, though it didn't do it once and I think that's when I went from 1st to reverse pretty quickly. Pulling it out of reverse is difficult. Impossible to put it into any other gear from reverse until after you have engaged the clutch in neutral and then try again.

My clutch engages directly off the floor though, so I'm pretty sure it's just sometimes not disengaging all of the way...like if the floor mat (OEM) gets up under the pedal...not a lot of difference, but when the catch point is that immediate, it means something. I'm going to adjust it some time tomorrow and see what happens.
