Transmission fluid change

For those that have done it on your own, did you have to raise the car off the ground? Because I got my hand pump, and my MT-90 in hand but I can't seem to squeeze myself under there.

Yeah, I raise the front up, remove the plug, put a clear plastic 3/8ths tube in the hole(five feet long), lower car, put funnel on the other end of plastic tube, fill funnel periodicaly until it overflows, and I can reach under there witht the plug in hand and screw it in blindly. Raise car and torque. Never said I was high tech.

Raise the front of the car with a floor jack or drive up on car ramps.

Just did this yesterday afternoon. Had to jack up the front and then used jack stands (NEVER crawl under a car if it's only on a jack.)

I used Redline MT-90 and the tranny is shifting much more easily. If you haven't picked this up yet, do so. It's worth every penny.

And make sure you can remove the fill plug b4 you remove the drain plug. You'll ground your 7 if you can't get new fluid in...

does anyone know what size the fill and drain plugs are. The largest one looks like 23mm but i don't have that socket to be sure. Some of the plugs looked like squares but my 14mm and 16mm sockets fit around them. Is their a special square socket or is it fine to use this?

The 12 point's can be used on square plugs, but I'd rather use a crecent wrench to keep from rounding off that bad boy. As for lifting the car, be advised that only lifting half the car will throw off the fluid level in the tranny and cause you to put in an extra half quart or so of fluid. My redline MT-90 cost me 10 bucks a quart but it is worth every penny!

Note the location, I'm in the middle of an ocean so they tend to rape you on shipping

They have it at Jegs for about $8 a quart i believe. I would definately recommend Redline MT-90, it made my 1st-2nd gear syncro problems practically disappear. When i changed it, i jsut jacked it up with all four jack stands to keep the fluid level. While youre at it, you might as well order some differential fluid and change it as well

u can get redline at advanced auto parts store

use a funnel and a 3 or 4 feet long clear tube,
fish the clear tube down from the engine side next to the oil filter. and then go under and put it in the fill hole, have your girl friend or neighbor pour while u watch. use of wife may result in huge spills.

or you can run down to lowes and get one of those fluids PUMPs that you can hook up to a drill, and pump away,
manual pumps SUCK A$$. after the 2nd quart ur triceps will lock up.

try to get the car level....

if u can, raise the car up on jackstands... in the front,
then use sicssor jacks (2) at the back... to LEVEL the car (if u can jack the back and put jackstands on jackpoints, that is MUCH better and SAFER)

then take out the 24mm bolt on the bottom and the 12pt (open wrench) drain plug...
(u can use a gator grip if u don't mind the bolts stripping a bit) but its better to use an open ended wrench and a mallot to hit the wrench...

then use 14mm wrenches and mallot to break the fill and check plugs....
use a fluid pump

look at the FSM for more details
