Tranny is Shot.. what to do?

The Synchro's in my 88 TII are shot and the shifter bushings are non existant..

the Car grinds like HELL goin into 2nd gear.. and 5th gear as well..

3rd and 4th are ok..

but there's SOO much play in the gear ****.. that it feels like i'm stirring mud with a wooden spoon and "seeking" the gates... shifting to fifth feels like i'm shifting to 15th gear it falls soo far off to the right....

I also have a 91 S5 N/A... the tranny is beautiful on it.. synchro's are smooth as silk... and the shifter has NO play in it what so ever...

i know the tranny's are different... but what about the Synchro's and the bushings? can i "swap them"?

or Rebuild the tranny?

or look for a better condition TII tranny?

thanks..

I'd be shipping it half way around the world :P

50lb box of Tein coilovers cost 240 bux to ship it here in 3 days

anyone else?

can I buy just a "synchro set" and shifter bushings for the Tranny and rebuild it myself?

or is it easy to find a "healthy" used one?

A cheap fix would be switching the transmission oil to Redline MT-90, it helped my 1st-2nd grinding problem, it is almost not noticeable now. And the loose shifter problem is easy to fix with a bushings set.

Shifter bushings are easy.

Before you start looking at rebuilding the tranny, read the FSM and decide if it is something you want to take on.

Alot of honda boys use GM synchroMesh as well...

both are friction modifiers...

but i heard it's kind of a band aid fix... they make them wear out much faster... Dunno how true that is tho...

sad thing is.. neither of which are available to me in my neck of the woods...

tranny oil is a slightly controversial subject.

use car-part.com

hopefully you can find a t2 tranny local to you. its not that heavy. i can pick up my s14 tranny. it probably weighs about a hundred pounds.

or just drop your tranny, buy a rebuild kit and rebuild it. (or take it to a rebuild shop)

you can get redline from myoilshop.com (10% off 675421 code)

i checked mazdatrix.. didn't see a rebuild kit there...

any idea where they sell them and how much?

shipping a bunch of cogs and gears will be alot cheaper then the whole blood housing...
