Tranny Question.. flywheel placement?

1987.5 rx7 gxl
5 spd

on the flywheel removal video, there is a 2 1/8" nut that must be removed to get at the flywheel... but we pulled my tranny and the flywheel is connected to the motor side, and there is no nut... as far as i can tell my starter sepperated the ring from the flywheel due to missalignment from a previous problem... we are thinking about heating the ring gear to slide it over the flywheel (that is freezing) *canada* and placing it back over to allow it to press....

why is the tranny different?

does this sound like a smart or logical idea? probablitly of warping?

I didnt see any tranny tags... does anyone know what the number might be?

Would you suggest a whole new flywheel/ring gear assembley ... and if so, what is the best way to take the flywheel off without messing anything up with this tranny...

does anyone know what the part number is for this flywheel.... which i am assuming is different then the one i seen on the mazdatrix video.

if im missing somthing and didnt search well enough i appologize but im boggled why my setup looks nothing like the one on the video...
thanks, let me know

Daryl..if you can get A torch and cut the gear off.If there is no Nut there Then iT was either Overlooked in Installation Or ??/..Wedge something Behind the flywheel and give it a Whack with a BFH..(Big Effin Hammer.)..Since the Old flywheel is toast you can pretty well hit it anywhere.I wouldn't use it anymore.Period.Once off inspect the Shaft for damage along with the back of the Engine.Make sure when you Go to Put the transmission back in that you have replaced the Pilot bearing.Inspect the Clutch.(I would just replace since You had **** Goin on inbetween the Engine and Trans..it could be Damaged.Inspect the trans.Replace the Throw out bearing.take a look at the clutch fork to see if it' s OK...I think I got Most of it..Good luck.DAVE...Oh ..I would inspect the Eccentric shaft..the threads and Make sure that the "key' is Put on when you put the flywheel back on.

You won't see the big nut unless you remove the clutch. If its still not there then I have no idea how you have not had any bigger problems!

If the flywheel is still ok then heating the ring gear to get it back on is acceptable, but you have to wonder why it came off in the first place. A starter shouldn't be able to do that. Since you've got it apart, I'd just go ahead and replace the whole damn thing. Its a little more expensive but why not go with a lightend flywheel? And yes, the big nut is behind the clutch....come to think of it, replace the clutch too, might as well since your in there.
