Tranny Question.

I just had RP Performance in manassas VA rebuild my transmission. It shifts smoothly and everything now, it does not feel like its going to fall apart, and its nice and tight. But it still whines in neutral 1st,2nd,3rd, and 5th. Is it supposed to do that? Is there a break in process, or was it just not rebuilt correctly? I had many reccomendations for the shop and they guy was a nice guy and knew what he was doing. Is it ok and will it eventually stop?

What do you mean by winning noises? Did you replace the throw out bearing?

Yeah, the throwout bearing is brand new, when the clutch is disnegaged(Pedal pushed all the way in), there is no noise. It whines in all gears excpet 4th.

Many people have that winning idle noise, most time its from the throw bearing.. Did you grease up the throwout bearing before install?

Hmm make sure you have gear oil in the tranny. last thing you want is to have a new tranny die because lack of oil.

If your really consernd(sp?) call up the place and ask if its normal for a fresh rebuild to be making that noise.

I had the same exact problem with my 1987 300zx. It would make growling noise in all gears except fourth and when the clutch is depressed. it turned out to be the input shaft bearing inside the trans.
