tranny mount ???

SO, i feel like im about to ask a dumb question that has been asked a hundred times, but i really cannot find the information i need. i searched here, and google as well. im looking into solid trans mounts. the aluminum type with the bolt through the middle. heard good things about them. so how the f*ck do you put them on?? im not gonna buy them unless i know they will fit properly, but i cant find a halfways decent picture of an oem tranny mount anywhere. its for an 86 n/a 5-speed. theres no write ups on these solid mounts, theres no images with them installed, and the only picture of a factory tranny mount is of some rediculous looking bracket. is it really this hard to find decent information about solid mounts or am i retarded?

i would try the obvious and just "go under my car and look", but i dont have the ability right now. all of my tools are at school, the car is too low to look under, and i dont have access to a jack at the moment...

anybody installed these mounts before? all i really want to see is a half-ways decent picture or a tranny mount or of these solid bushing mounts installed... other than that i can free-ball it and figure it out from there.

sorry for the noob-ish rant...

Its usually a puck with a bolt or threaded rod through it. You use nuts/washers to secure the mount to the mounting points.

sorry maybe that didnt come out as clear as i had hoped.. i know what the solid mounts look like, and judging by the way they look i can deduct that they should be as easy as a 2 cent hooker to install, im more or less looking for a picture of the factory oem transmission mount, i found one picture of one, and it was a bracket that was very long and narrow. i wanted to see how the transmission mounts to the car with the factory mount.

normally i would just look under the car myself but its not an option at the moment..

hopefully that clarifies what im lookin for a little bit.

thanks tho

Best advice I can give you: look at the mounts in your car yourself. It really is easy to swap them out. You can look at my TII drivetrain swap thread. There are pictures of them mounted to the tranny in there.

Make certain you want them, a lot of vibration into the cabin.

and without the solid engine mounts you will likely snap the solid tranny mount bolts.

installation is self explanatory which is why there is no instructions anywhere. if you can figure out how to replace spark plugs and change your oil then you can install those mounts, if you can't then find a shop, pretty much any shop.

CA Solid Tranny Mount?

Agree with man's reply above. Make sure you really want that. All tranny, engine, and drivetrain vibration will be transmitted to the frame/body. Thats why the OEM mounts use rubber to damp those vibrations.

If you do decide to do it to the tranny, you may as well replace the motor mounts with solid ones.

Now there will be NO compliance in the drivetrain, and every mis-shift will be felt 100%.

yea thanks jjcobm pretty much what i was lookin for. just wanted to see a mock up picture with the mounts.

anyhow i also have solid engine mounts on the way. so yea. dont really know what else to say about that.

ive ridden in numerous cars with solid engine/tranny mounts and all i can say about it really is, glorious. im not looking for a comfy, drink my coffee in peace, kind of car. i want a "drivers" car. i enjoy being able to feel what the driveline is doing when im beating on it, i like knowing my car will react how i want it to, without having to deal with "slop".

vibrations really arent an issue. there really isnt that much of a difference anyhow. slightly more at idle, and a little more at wot. not a big deal. the exhaust already makes it vibrate anyway.

I guess you opinion on a vibration is quite a bit different from mine.
To say there’s not much difference between factory mounts and solid mounts is quite an understatement.

I installed Mazda Comp trans mounts and the vibration went right through the cabin and they aren't even the solid mounts. They were on 1 day then removed.
Then again I don't like the car with a loud exhaust, nor one that sounds like a beehive either.

and here is the picture you are looking for:

And let me guess, you can't even fathom driving without power steering?

Solid mounts (and p/s) is certainly more of a personal opinion and taste then anything else.

That's correct, and let's not forget about the a/c, got to have it!
After having the S5 TII for 21+years and seeing what cannibalization has been done to the various RX7's, I guess you could say I’m pretty particular.
Car has only seen the rain once in its lifetime.

Can't blame you, but have you ever drove a fully depowered car with solid mounts? Makes driving more.... interesting

I also agree with the people who say solid mounts aren't that bad. It's when you add solid mounts to the diff and sub frame that you start to get a lot of driveline noise.

Dam, that must be one MINT RX7!! If I had one in that condition I would probably be on the same page with you.

And I agree with you on the A/C part.

Just and FYI-Now on the other hand, have a NHRA comp license.
I know next to nothing about drag racing, but I wonder if road feel on a road coarse is more important then in a drag race. This may be what influences some of us 7 owners to get rid of the power steering.

I got rid of it because I thought it was way the f to light. I swear I could turn the wheel lock to lock with a good sneeze.

Not to sreal the thread, but the first TII I was going to purchase was a '87 no ps item. Didn't like it at all so purchased the '88 TII with ps, then when the '89 TII arrived at the dealership purchased that one.

That's what makes the world go around, we all don't like the same things.

yea difference of opinion is really what makes it great. i enjoy my loud, rattley beehive. a/c? lol. p/s? eh.. havent had p.s in a vehicle in the last 5 or 6 years so i guess im accustomed to it. my roommate has an s5 with p.s and i hate it. you breathe on the steering wheel and the car turns a 180..

but on the flippy floppy i get why you would want a smoothe, quiet ride. its a nice change of pace. my 240sx is built to perform, but also be aestheticly pleasing. its quiet (on the inside at least), the ride is smoothe yet almost out-handles my fc, and its got a cup holder... which is kind of nice i guess. that car doesnt see road more than 5 or 6 months out of the year. and only if its clear skys and sunny.

my fc on the other hand... its a "day to day, beat the **** out of it, then take it to the track and beat the **** out of it some more", kind of car. and its worked out well so far..
