TPS question.

On the FSM, the it says to connect "checker lamps" to the check connector (green). Then the lamps will signal to screw clock wise or counter clockwise.

Are these 2 led lights just like the other check lights that get's those 12 errors?

My car (1987 TII) isn't idleing very good at all, please help

PS: my only mod is the TB, this started after this mod, and no, i haven't reset the TPS.
Thanks

I use the other method - 1k ohms across the sensor at idle stop.
On the TII I just bought the idle reading was good, but the sweep was erratic & idle was sometimes good, sometimes not.
I pulled it, & on the bench my VOM showed an erratic jump in the needle at ~3K.
I cleaned it with CRC QD Contact Cleaner, worked it in & blew it out several times.
The meter now shows a smooth sweep as the TPS plunger goes in & out.
Re installed & reset to 1K on the idle stop.
Idle is now perfect..

I just did that same test. What it is saying is this.

1) the car must be warmed to operating temperature
2) turn ignition on/engine off
3) hook up lamps and the turn TPS screw left or right until only
one lamp is lit. It doesn't matter which lamp it is.

What results do you get?

The lights showed my idle setting was good.
It took the VOM needle to show the erratic sweep as the plunger moved.

SureShot,

I didn't get any reading with the lamps or risistance
so I replaced the TPS and set it with the lamps. I let it
go at that and It's running much better now.

I did the 1k Ohm calibration, but the idle is still a little irradic. I've also noticed that when i play with the BAC screw, the rpms sound the same. Could it be the BAC, maybe dirty?

P.S. What do they mean with "Connect a jumper wire to the initial set coupler" in the FSM for idle adjustment? WTH is initial set coupler?

The ISC is a 2 pin connector by the ECU test connector. THis disables any idle correction by the ECU, etc. It allows you to set your initial idle. Wont help you in while doing the TPS adjustment.

Yes, these are the VERY same lights you can use to check your ECU. Also, on a series 4, you dont "reset" your TPS.

You should be getting 1 light if your tps is set correctly.

J-rat, do you have a diagram to know how to place those jumpers?

Umm..Not handy, what writeup are you using to do this TPS check? Lets concentrate on the TPS first.
