On the topic of LSDs!!!
So unless im incorrect, only the Turbo model, and the GTUs came with LSDs right?
Which is better? Ive had some friends say mine is either not very good or going out. Particularly when doing donuts, one tire smokes ALOT more than the other. Both tires burn depending on what way im spinning, but not equally.
Is the Turbo LSD better than mine (1989 GTUs) or is there another cars LSD that I can put into my car?

^ That's the most economical way to upgrade to the clutch type lsd, but you lose your GTUs ratio. Which is pretty much the best thing about the GTUs. Your s5 diff is a viscous diff, so the fluid could be wearing out.
From the FAQ:
"Did my 2nd Gen RX-7 come with a Limited Slip Differential?
Only the following USA model 2nd gen RX-7s had a LSD from the factory:
86-88 GXL
87-91 Turbo
88 GTU
89-90 GTUs (however not the 89-90 GTU)"
Turbo LSD's are physically larger and don't drop into an NA drivetrain. Turbo version is obviously stronger.

All s4 GXL, GTU and turbo came with clutch type lsd
all s5 GTUs and turbocame with vlsd.
S4 gxl is the best stock lsd you can drop into any N/A drivetrain.
S4 turbo is the best stock lsd you can drop into a turbo drivetrain.
Basically, go with the clutch type. Vlsd uses fluid to engage the gear in the unit. The fluid is over 20 years old since you cannot replace it, they overheat fast if you abuse them and then you get a regular open diff.

Would that S4 n/a clutch go in easily with my ring gear?
Ill check out the oversized clutch and washers.

Also, Spike, could you hook up a link to what you are talking about on Mazdatrix. I cant seem to find the clutches you are talking about. Found the thrust washers though.
Mazdatrix lsd's and lsd rebuild parts
At the bottom under the wording "Use the high performance parts below for stronger lockup. Interchange these thicker parts
to create a thicker stack, which will have a higher clamping force."
Get 2x of the oversized thrust washers(+ .2mm) #27-2530-M020 and upto 4x of the inside pin lsd discs #27-2570-M020. On my s4 tii lsd diff I added two of the oversized thrust washers and 4 of the .1mm thick lsd discs. It doesn't chirp when turning although it clunks slightly like a kaaz locking and unlocking, and it locks extremely well for drifting.
If you unbolt the s5 vlsd from your 4.30 ring gear and bolt up the s4 clutch lsd to it you will keep your same rear end ratio, which is desirable. Just one thing to keep in mind the vlsd axle stubs are different from open and clutch type axle stubs. So if using a clutch lsd you'll need the axles that came with it.
