heh, its not that hard to simply not click on this thread. its funny that this stock geared, still heavy 249horse t2 can claim 185mph. i mean, i know someone with 500 to the ground. my goodness, with that sort of power he should be able to outrun that slow racing beat 244mph run.

Boy, and I had to stick my nose in here...

It takes an exponential amount of horsepower to get the car over 100mph.
It's something about the 100mph speed level that allows aerodynamics to quickly kick on.

Almost any FC turbo with full exhaust and intake can bury the tach in 5th gear.
This is espeicially so for Zenki FC turbos with the shorter 5th gear, but it might be a little harder for Kouki FC turbos who have a taller 5th gear.
A Zenki FC turbo hits redline in 5th gear at around 165 - 170mph.
A Kouki FC turbo hits redline in 5th gear at around 180 - 185mph.
This is for US-Spec FC turbos only, as J-spec runs weird ratios in 5th and the rear end sometimes.

Now, getting over 200mph is no trivial matter.
If you think it was hard to get to 200mph, it's even harder to go past that!
If you think aero was important at slower speeds, aero will prevent you from getting killed at over 200mph.
I think the Racing Beat FC had over 600mph to hit the 244mph mark at Bonneville.
Add to that everything else was bulletproof.
We're talking special differential and transmission coolers, etc.

In Japan, the 300kph (about 186mph) club is not that exclusive.
Even a moderately modified FC turbo can hit those speeds, and it's just a matter of keeping the car on the ground - i.e. aero!
Going above 300kph is something better left for the pro's.
I've seen specially built "Wangan" (named after the infamous Tokyo expressway) cars, and these vehicle have budgets approaching US$100,000 if not more...

Ted, your post seemed to say both things. i couldn't tell which side you were sticking with. heh. it sounds like you're saying someone with enough road could do this. i know i'm not trying anytime soon.

One thing no one's asked yet is whether this was done on flat ground or not. I got my '93 626 with 120k miles on it up to almost 140 on the speedo, but it was on a very long downhill run.

i was about to say "sorry, i live in texas. i dont think about hills much" but i see you're also in texas. i have no idea where killeen is. towards austin (from dfw) ?
anyways. thats quite a bit of downhill time i would think. at the rate of speed plus time it would take to reach 7300-7500 in 5th gear. i would be one freaked out passenger at that rate.

Killeen is about 60 miles straight north of Austin, right tby Fort Hood. The hills I was talking about were on Highway 6 north of College Station. I maxed out my 626 coming back from Houston at about 4 AM. It didn't take too long in that car, but I don't think there would be enough room to max out a RX-7.

was it stock? My bone stock TII hit 150 and it would decelerate to 145 and it would repeat until I gave up and let off the gas.......it didn't do that after the Fuel and boost controllers tho........

Of course it wasn't stock, but it was running the stock ECU.
There is no stock speed related fuel cut on any North American Rx-7. Your 150 mph "limiter" must be a mechanical malfunction of your car. I would look into fixing it if you plan on going those speeds consistently.

It did not do this after I installed my boost controller and fuel controller tho......and I don't plan on going that fast again....3 times is enough for me....

my basically stock TII has gone 170, so I don't see how 180 is that much more difficult.

getting to 140MPH is pretty quick (20 seconds maybe?) and 140-170 takes another 20-30 seconds.

I don't see how anyone on the stock COOLING system could attain these speeds for long, however, as my car started to get hot after 10-15seconds of WOT above 6000RPM.

I'm talking about MPH.

if it took my car nearly a minute to get to 170km/h (110mph) I would have gotten rid of it (or put in a better motor) LONG ago.

How "mostly stock" is this? Are you basing this on a stock tach/speed reading? (stock speedo doesn't go up to 170 mph)

GPS.

Mostly stock = intake, 3" turboback. FCD, fuel. 12psi.

~7400RPM in 5th, IIRC.

I've taken mine slightly over 7K in 5th, but I have the shorter S4 gearing. I dont believe that his claim is impossible, but hitting 200MPH would require a large port, raised redline, and a huge turbo, wouldn't it?
