my front drivers side brake rotor is stuck to the hub good.

the passengers side didnt want to move either but i went under the car with a piece of 2X4 and a hammer and hit it 4-5 times and it poped off.

i tried this on the passengers side aswell and after about a hlaf an hour a stoped using the block of wood and jus t the 20 oz. hammer didnt help so i got a begger hammer and tried that for about an hour.
also while doing this ever few min i woud spray arond the hub and studs with PB Blaster. after that didnt help i cleaned off all the oil and tried heating the rotor and then beating it with the hammer and that didnt do it.

i didnt get it red hot though cause i didnt wana destroy the grease and or bearings in the hub. but now im so frustrated i think im gonna pull the hub off and try getting the rotor off the hub whie its all off the car.

any one else have any ideas?

According to the FSM, you are supposed to use a press too seperate them.

 

you know that CV boot looking thing attached to the back of the rotors, it hooks up to the body frame, yah I cant get it out, so if your underthere and board sometime this coming week, can you see if you can get it out?

 

The rotor is rather simple. First ask your self if you are going to reuse the rotor? Like take it to a shop to get it turned.

If you are not going to reuse the rotor just beat the hell out of it with a hammer. You might want hearing protection.

Ok, so you are reusing the rotor.

You will notice there is a predrilled hole in the rotor. Find a metric bolt and thread it thru. Then start cranking it in! This bolt should help to work the rotor away from the hub. Or you might be able to thread a bolt thru the rotor screw holes.

For reasymbly I would take some grease and apply the thinest coat between where the rotor contacts the hub. This way you can cut down on the corrosion that is holding the rotor to the hub.

Also, if you are trying to remove the rear half shaft from the hub and it is rusted in place you will need a pulley puller. You can get this from Autozone on a rental basis.

Just make sure you grease up the pivot point on the puller where it contacts the halfshaft.

Then on reasymbly make sure you smother those splines with grease so that doesn't happen again.

You did remove the screw that holds the rotor to the hub?You didn't mention it so I thought I'd ask.

 

Heat is your friend. If have found the only effective way to remove a seriously stuck rotor is to heat it up with a torch until red, then bash with a hammer. It goes without saying that this trashes the rotor.

 

uh~oh... it is my turn now! My rotors are happily married to the hubs with ever lasting rust...
may lord help me with all might to get all of them divorce!!!

I'm trying the PB soaking (they are soaking now) and hammer method... hopefully it will bulge... but I doubt so ~_~"
