Tinted windows
I do believe that those spots develop from using your rear defroster when it is not really needed. I assume this because I have only seen them on rear windows and only on rear windows with defrost wires on them.
I can't speak for all RX-7s, but the 10AE came with bronze tint from the factory, I believe it's tinted glass too, not actual film tint. Beyond that, I'm pretty sure the glass in my '86 LC was 100% before I tinted it.

i dont like the rear hatch tinted, my TII has a pretty dark one on it and you cant even tell what kind of car is behind you at night...i like to be able to clearly see out of the window, and with it tinted you cant... i was thinking about taking it off...
The ovals you are seeing IS the polarization- it is the tint that is present in most factory rear hatches. It's to reduce glare and such, you see it in some windsheilds too. You see it only while wearing polarized sunglasses, or by veiwing it through other glass (like your windsheild while driving), but occasionally the light will be righgt abd it will be visable by itself.
i would love to tint my hatch so people can't see what i have back there, but that really lowers visability. i am used to turning my head to look back and check blind spots as well as reverse etc, and with tint you can't see jack behind the car.
i got my rear hatch tinted limo black and i love it. People cant see what i have in the back, and with the 7 being black it looks alot better in my opinion. The only problem is reversing in the night is really hard, expecially when its raining. Might try to brighten up my reverse lights. During the day i see fine.
My sides are tinted to the legal limit (in ontario) not sure what percentile that is. But no as dark as my hatch obviously

I was never really into tinted windows until I actually decided to do it due to the extreme summer heat in a black on black leather FC vert. Now I love it, except for the fact that due to the front window design you cant see anything in reverse at night. Trying to back out of a parking spot in the dark is dangerous bc you can't just roll down your window at night to see your mirrors. But otherwise I love it. It looks great and helps with the heat.
not yet, but i will have the two windows darker than the front and rear windshields.
10AE windshields are bronze-tinted glass but the windshield is out of production so you can't get them anymore.

I have a black paint / grey interior, cars looks a lot better with the tinting and stays a lot cooler in the summer. downside is a bit less visability when backing at night. get used to rolling down the window and using the outside mirrors.
I've got a black 88 GTU with grey interioir and VERU tinted windows and hatch. It's almost so dark that I have to roll the windows down at night to see.
The car looks hella sexy though. The CF TII hood I am going to buy will just make it drop dead sexy!

I guess I have polarized eyes.
I can see the ovals any time of the day.
I don't need sun glasses.

I absolutely love my tint. I have pretty much a pure mirror tint on the hatch depending on the angle you're looking at it. If your line of sight is exactly perpendicular with the glass you cant see anything inside the car. But if you look at the glass from an angle you can see thru somewhat. Its kinda hard to explain but it's great because it doesnt affect my vision at any time day or night.
You can kind of see what I mean in this picture if you look at the hatch, and as you can tell the mirror effect is much lighter on the front windows.
