I put 15% tint on my old Buick, and I never had any problems with backing up and such, unless I was in an isolated area(read: out in the boondocks with no street lights), so unless you go with darker tint than that, you shouldn't have any problems.

Besides, the darker, the cooler it looks.

Mine has a purple strip across the top of the windshield which was added on by the first owner, but I will be taking it off because it looks uber ghey, and the door windows seem to have a purplish kind of tint to them. They could be black, just the reddy interior is making it look purple. I plan to have the tint removed sometime in the spring or one day when I get bored. The hatch hasn't been touched though.

for those who did your own tinting, I have two qeustions regarding the rear hatch:

1) How do you deal with the defroster lines?
2) Does the hatch have compound curves, or can you get away with one big piece of tint?

I've done some side windows on my old cars, but never a compound curve. Didn't want to cut strips.

IMO, I think tints make a car look cheap. I'm not flaming but I think that the darker the tint - the more cheap It looks. I went through tints. From dark to progressively lighter. In fact, I changed It 4 times! In the end, I ditched them and I appreciate the look of a non darkened FC.

I understand that people tint their rear Hatches so their contents aren't as visable. I'd just say to get a rear Hatch Cover I Included this In my Black Interior swap and I'm quit pleased with It.

I drove my beater FC for 8 years with no tints and got a "newer" beater and put on limo tints and it looks sexy as hell. So far the only thing that might suck is looking out at night if it's raining hard.

I thought the rear glass and windows of cars was due to the tempering process(heat treatment i think). I don't know of any cars that have polarized windows. If you have polarized glasses, turn them 90 degrees and look through them at the rear window. If the window appears black, then it is polarized.

I don't know about that, my old Renault GTA had 2.5% tint all the way around, you couldn't see in or OUT. That was removed soon after I got it.

i have dark tint all the way around. not limo, but dark enough so it's hard to see what's under the hatch. i just don't like the idea of being able to see my battery back there.

and with a black interior and no ac, i think it's a necessity.

I had 8% all around in my old mitsubishi. I could see out just fine. But now I'm not concerned with people being able to see in. If I was going to get tints it would be solely to reject some heat from the sun. Probably 20% rear, 35% front. Just enough to darken it a bit and reject/reflect some heat. For now it's not tinted, nor is my beater car.

My FC came with the hatch tinted.. It looks black on the outside, but on the inside it gives a purple reflection O.o I don't like it, haha (blue interior + purple light = O.O?) Someone told me it was the stock tint, but I dunno. Hopefully I can get it removed, or maybe put some navy/black sorta tint on it =)

i have an 88GTU and have the same kind of interior and purplish tint, i THINK it IS factory tint. the purple is trippy on sunny days, i think a black tint instead of purple would make it look cleaner on the inside of the car

I have a pretty dark tint on the rear hatch of my 87 N/A...doesn't affect visibility at all really, and keeps the stuff in your trunk hard to see.

My 85 SE has a factory tinted bronze windshield (needs replacing). The glass roof is also tinted bronze. If I tint either car, I think I'll try to find the same shade as those.
