Timing Question

Hey guys, so I've been searching a bit and couldn't find an exact answer. Maybe I'm just not looking in the right spot. With the stock t2 ecu on a 90 engine and a fcd installed is the timing retard enough at the "tricked" 8.5 psi to run 10 psi safely. I have stock 550 injectors, rewired fuel pump, a fmic if needed, a manual bc, 3 inch cat back and I'm porting the wastegate out on the stock turbo now. This is my first turbo car and I'm not trying to pop and engine anytime soon. Any help is appreciated !

get a rtek chip instead. it will work better. make sure your knock sensor is wired in.

a 1.7 is a much better investment than an fcd and is much safer

I covered your question in this thread: https://www.rx7club.com/2nd-generation-specific-1986-1992-17/stock-s4-turbo-timing-maps-warning-those-stock-ecu-943159/ which discusses the stock timing maps

I can tell you for certain than an S5 engine with a stock ECU, FCD, stock fuel pump & stock fuel injectors will blow running 10 psi. I went down that road about 6 years ago. The stock fuel pump flows poorly at higher fuel pressures (FPR raises pressure 1:1 with boost), and an FCD screws with the boost signal. Pocketlogger is now chipping N374 ECUs, so that along with a fuel pump and injector upgrade will be a much better route.

EDIT: N374 can be converted to an Rtek 2.x, but you'll need an N370 for 1.7 conversion.
