TII Trans fluid-big power guys chime in

My car is having issues being speed shifted around 8k. It seems to be blocking me out as in the syncrows are not doing a great job-not grinding like there is a physical gear issue. In my experience, proper trans fluid sometimes has a factor in this.

There is synthetic 20-50 in there right now, that is what works well in DSM and Honda boxes. I was wondering what the 500++whp guys (are there any around here? )are using with success-heavy fluids such as Redline shockproof, or light fluids suck as GM Synchromesh.

I have searched the forums with no luck. Let me know what works for you guys.

1) "Speed shifted"? You expect a stock transmission to be able to do this? Strike 1.

2) "8k" RPM shift? The stock redline is 7kRPM on all FC turbos. Strike 2.

3) 20W50 oil in the trans? Stock recommendation is 85W90 or something like that. Strike 3.

You really expect a stock transmission to do through that kinda abuse???

Motor oil? - Not in this tranny - Not for long.

Synthetic gear lube is what it likes.

You really want to short shift 1st (around 5K) and let 2nd do the grunt pull through the power band.

Redline MT90. Shifting the damn thing at 8K, its not designed for that. Time to start checking the for sale section cause that tranny is gonna blow up.

Yes, yes I do. I shifted my Colt at 8.5k on a stock trans (that is still mint after 2+ years of abuse) and 20-50w. (Stock recommended is 80-90)

Also-our 11.8's NA honda is POWER shifted at 10.5k, No issues this whole season on a trans we pulled out of the Junkyard.- with 20-50w.

I have witnessed RX-3's go 8.0's on STOCK TII trannies, shifted at 10k, with no issues. Since I dont speak Spanish-I cant find out what fluid they run.

You people really need to step out of your box once in a while.

In the box that I live in - Redline MT-90 is worth every cent.

I used Lucas oil in it originally and had 2nd gear and high RPM shifting probs. The oil was too slippery (in your case too light) for the synchros to engage correctly.

Seriously - the MT-90 cured the problem.

I'll go back to my box now.

You midwest DSMers can get away with some tricky things.

BTW, I have heard about you through my buddy Captain Tonus on 4g61t.org. I would love to hear sometime how that turbo setup is working on your FC.

I used Reline manual transmission fluid in my TII.

When the rev limiter was at 8,000rpm I could just keep the throttle down and shift without a problem engaging the next gear.

I tried this with 9,000rpm rev limit and it is hard to take out of gear and slow to shift as you have found.

Proper fluid will help but there are limits to what the stock gear set can do...

Full boost at 5k (earlier in 4th and 5th). Come with him to the shootout, and I will give you a ride.

Just got back from a drive.

It shifts Ok above 8k, but you have to granny shift it. I will be trying the MT90/ATF mix next-I will let you guys know if I see an improvement.

20psi and pump gas feels good-datalogs look OK. 48lbs/min-I dont know how much the stock head/cams are holding that back though...

Are we talking about Colts? No.
Last time I checked, this was an RX-7 forum.

Also-our 11.8's NA honda is POWER shifted at 10.5k, No issues this whole season on a trans we pulled out of the Junkyard.- with 20-50w.

Lesse...you're talking about a chassis probably around 1,000 lbs. lighter with rear end gears a lot taller...
You might want to ask these race teams how many extra spare transmissions they take with them to the races next time...

You people really need to step out of your box once in a while.
You might want to stop smoking the crack pipe every once in a while...
