TII trannys

Whats the differance in the actual transmission for a TII from a s4 and an s5? IS there any differance or is it just the clutch thats differant? I need to know. I got a deal on a TII s4 tranny for 100. I need it for my s5.

The only difference that I know of is that the 5th gear ratio is higher on the S5s. It's the same ratio as the FDs. There are probably more, but that's the only one I know of.

For $100 I'd buy it just for a spare and perhaps tear it down and rebuild it for fun.

no, no, no I cant tear it apart. I need it. The one thats IN my car I can tear apart though. The synchros are starting to get real bad. Plus I gotta replace a clutch so Im gonna kill 2 birds with one stone. But I just wanted to know if there were any major differances. How much of a differance is there in the 5th gear? Cause my 5th gear never pulled like my friends s4 would in 5th. Is it that shorter of a gear?

Oh, and I'll still need to use the s5 clutch right?

only thing you need to swap out is the little sensor on top of the tranny, with exception of clutch and such

Clutches are the same from 87-91 on all TII trannys. Pilot bearings are slightly different, but either will work in either tranny I believe. Ribbing is different. Fill and drain holes are slightly different. 5th gear ratio is taller. Sensor connections at wire ends are different. Mounts are different. They mount the same way to the car, but differently to the tranny. Series 5 mount is better.
