TII MAF onto N/A ?

Okay, so it seems like a question for the search engine, but I couldn't find anything. First off is the TII MAF larger than the NA MAF on an 86-88 engine? If so can you swap a TII MAF onto an NA and have the engine run properly? Do you think that any gains can be had by doing such a swap? Thanks.

It's supposed to flow about 20-40cfm more, and it works just fine mixing and matching, though there's no performance increase.

becuase the N/A engine doesn't exceed it's flow rate.

it has the potential for more power bc it reads a wider signal but if your NA can max out a stock AFM with the stock fuel injection you have to tell us all what the secret is The TII unit will likely drop power as I bet it's calibrated to run richer than the NA piece...

S4,s run fine with either AFM. S5's are another story. A TII AFM on a S5 n/a will run too lean, and it noticably hurts power. Ive heard of S5 TII's running on n/a MAF's, but being too rich is better than too lean.

mazdaspeed7: a s5 N/A afm on a TII will cause it not to idle for ****, and run mad rich. Also hesitates at higher rpm. Sadly I know this

Lol. Well thanks for adding that. S4's dont seem to mind the wrong TB very much, but all S5's seem to highly disapprove.

I too had replaced mine when the n/a one went bad. I used an extra T-II one that a friend had lying around with no problems. They physically appear identical with the exception of the part numbers. Unfortunately back then I was just learning how to modify things (break things with style!) and I opened it up and messed with the spring. Never got that afm to function right ever again. Replaced it with another T-II unit.

The NA and Turbo AFM's are externally identical and will flow exactly the same amount of air. The Turbo's has a stronger spring because of the higher airflow, so if you use it on an NA the ECU will see a lower airflow reading and the engine will run lean.
