TII experts, help!!!!

ok, here's the situation. i replaced the turbo on my 88 10AE today. the idle is now at 3200rpm and will not drop. the factory boost gauge is showing -20 at the 3200rpm idle. i can only assume that something is wrong there as my other 88 TII has never dipped down there. i can find no vacuum leaks. the idle does not surge, its steady. please help.

is the throttle tab against the throttle stop screw? Are the throttle plates closing fully?

Maybe the throttle cable is binding?

Check anything you touched to make sure all hoses are reattached, electric plugs plugged back in. Did you forget to use a gasket somewhere?

Just some things to check first.

throttle plates are fully closed and the tab is touching the stop screw.... i checked all connections. i'm not sure what i could have missed that would sky rocket the idle. every gasket that was touched was lightly re-sealed with rtv black. i checked for vacuum leaks with map gas and with starting fluid.

I don't know, how could it be idling that high w/ the throttle tab against the screw?

www.boostpro.net/prodtester.html buy or build a pressure tester like this to test for boost/vacuum leaks.

Grab a pair of needlenose pliers, and with the engine at idle, start pinching closed any hoses that are part of the intake tract, especially the ones from the BAC to the air intake duct, and from the cold idle assist to the intercooler. Look for changes in rpm and report back. This assumes of course that the throttle lever is against the stop screw and is not being held away from it due to tight cables, thermowax, etc.

Sounds like a big vacuum leak, maybe you got a hose unhooked, or hooked up wrong.

i found the problem. for whatever reason the cruise control cable kept getting tighter and tighter, causing the throttle to open. it would release when the engine was shut down. it must be a freak thing because i have never heard of that happening. i removed the intercooler and found the cable still bound after shutdown. i re-adjusted the cable and have had no similar problems. i also replaced the water pump and the water pump housing to engine gasket. that took care of my coolant leak dripping from the front cover. car is running great and boosting well (idle is still a tad high at 1100 but i can live with that). next step is a RB exhaust and walbro fuel pump just to ensure engine survival. i want to keep my 10AE nice and reliable. it now joins my FC lineup as drivable cars.
