TII Engine harness! What can I do?

Doing a conversion from a 89 gxl to a s5 tII. Can't find any used harnesses and won't pay for the new ones. I think I saw a thread talking about modifying one of the others. Can I get a NA harness and modify it very easily? What are my options?

I thought you only had to move and lengthen the BAC wires to make the S5 NA work for S5 turbo...

Anyone else know more on this subject?

thought the connector to the ECU was different by a few wires. I know it is on S4, but though it might be the same on S5. Its like 3 or 4 wires, correct me if I'm wrong. It might even have to do with the pin-outs on the ECU, but not sure.

Standalone the bitch...

Seriously, if you're not willing to put the money into the car, get rid of it.
You're looking at a money pit if the harness is keeping you from completing the car.

I know there is going to be money, but there are a lot better places for my money to go then $675 or more just for an engine harness. I am not ready to put the money into a stand alone yet. I have money going in a lot of different directions and just need to find out what to do for the harness.

The S4 and S5 connectors are COMPLETELY different, but from what I've read, the S5 na-turbo harness conversion is a relatively simple process... if you can pull and repin a few wires.

On the other hand, if you are willing to lengthen a few wires (meaning almost all of them), a j-spec S5 harness might work (not as easy though).

I have no problem with electronics/wiring/soldering, I just need a schematic. Can anyone direct me to the necessary schematics or just pinouts so I know what I need to change?

like i said, the pinouts on the ECU differ by maybe 3 or 4. On S4 AND s5. s4 and s5 arent interchangeable tho, but thats a diff story. an s4 t2 and NA differ by maybe 4, same with s5 NA and T2. Its the pinouts on the ECU that are in question more than anything.

Edit: you posted before I could. The pinouts can be found in the FSM, in the FAQ of this forum. Start there. You could even compare them, I'm lazy so I never did. There will be a diagram of the connector for the ECU. Compare the two and see the diff. Then rewire as necessary. Good luck.

Copied from another thread:

N/A
1R - connected to P/S switch
2K - connected to split air solenoid valve
3D - connected to inhibitor switch

turbo
1R - knock control unit
2K - twin scroll solenoid
3D - Fuel Pump resistor relay

I'm just too lazy to look and see what happens if you leave it in place. I'd bet ten bucks nothing.

2M...find the VDI solenoid plug and remove the wire that is NOT black/white. Splice the wire from the knock sensor to it. Done.

3J does the same thing on both engines.

3N. do nothing.

3R....make the wires from the Six port solenoid reach the Duty Control Solenoid. Done

3R again....well you could just leave the plug alone not connected to anything and use the aftermarket unit. You don't have to cut any of the wires mentioned in your post.
