thats probably not the throttle cable you see in the pics... it might be the hood latch release cable you are seeing... other than that i cannot imagine why anybody would do this

My 87 Turbo 2 I just bought does that as well. My NA does not though from the same year. I think all you just can route it however you see fit without much trouble. I haven't gotten there yet but you can probalby just unhook it and then run it against the firewall a ways above the downpipe.

the na throttle body if facing a different way then the turbo throttle body. there for the na can use a small throttle cable becuase it comes out of firewall dirrectally to TB. but the turbo has to go all the way around the engine because thats the way it attaches.

this thread sucks.

go blow up your engine so you have more to worry about than your throttle cable being in the way.

You were probably looking at pictures of RHD cars. For obvious reasons the throttle cable basically runs parallel to the cruise control cable until it turns and runs through the firewall.
...is their anyway to change this? so it doesnt run so far around there, it annoys me.
Your cable comes through the firewall on the left side of the engine, and it must pull the throttle towards the right. You cannot change these two things, so the simple answer is no you can't change this.

Two totally impractical solutions would be a complex, fabricated mechanical linkage or an electronic throttle (which the lastest MoTec ECU's can control).
