throttle body question
hey guys,
i just took the intake all the way to the throttle body off. i noticed the top butterfly valves are open the car has been sitting for 10 days and the battery is dead because of this. i have 2 questions.
are the valves supposed to be just sitting there open like that?
and
why does the car die after sitting for 10 days? Is this a grounding problem? the battery is 5 months old.
thanks

Former Moderator. RIP Icemark.
the dead battery is because of weak battery, something left open/on, or there is a current draw from something aftermarket wired wrong.

butterflies should be closed at idle or when you look at the throttle body.
shove it in the closed position and get some carb cleaner, spray it and let it soak, then open/close it manually a couple of times. if theyre stuck in the open position while installed then your cars idle should be real high.

there are the two front upper ones that seem to stay half open. but the back upper valves are closed until i manually pull on the throttle. so in reality i have like a total of 5 valves when looking straight down the TB. hey Lazy RX7 maybe you can port and polish mine!

On a N/T, the set of two butterflys should be wide open when the car is not running. This car is not a turboII.
On a N/T those butterflys only close when the water temp is cold AND the car is running. The double throttle diaphram keeps them closed until the water thermo valve gets warm water, which in tur removes the vacuum from the double throttle diaphram. free download of the fsm at http://www.iluvmyrx7.com
