Question thinking of selling my REX

Hey, I was recently thinking of selling my 86 RX-7 GX, but am not totally sure how much I should be asking for it. Tell me what u guy's think. Im the 2nd owner, no accidents, absolutely no rust or bondo anywhere, garage kept since new, 120,000 original kms. 70,000kms on newer tranny, 20,000kms on clutch. interior was completely removed and cleaned, not smoked in. new red paint, no dings, glass polished, factory rear tint, 96 acura integra seats, fresh rebuild, only 4000kms since, new rad, exhaust, rebuilt alternator, new fuel pump all interior and exterior lenses and bolts replaced, 10,000 on discs and brakes, air intake, flush mount headlights, turbo hood, stock phone dial wheels, 90% tread on tires, custom door panels, mp3 cd, 2-amps, 2-10's built into storage compartment area(hidden) all new winow seals and door seals, hardtop. Basically the car has been totally rebuilt not to mention the low kms to begin with, anyways just was wanting some input. Thanks.

Sounds like a clean car, too bad you want to sell it, because very few people will appreciate all of the effort that you have gone throught to get it where it is now!

As for price, to get top dollar you need to find an older buyer that wants a clean (finished) car, most young (no offense intended) buyers want to get in cheap and throw some money in as they have it.

You'll do extremely well to get near $10K, and that is based mainly on the model year.

I know, because I have the same kind of project underway!

10k!? Where are you guys getting these numbers from? TeeDiddy...RX7's really don't hold their value even when restored. It sucks, but its a fact of life. You might get $4000 USD out of it, maybe a bit more depending on the buyer. You can get a modded TII with a new engine on the RX7club for sale section for under $5k, so an N/A goes for substantially less. If I were you, I would keep it. It sounds like a very clean car. Maybe even supercharge it if you want more power. If you aren't up to that task, nitrous is easy and a 50-75 hp wet shot is completely safe. Enjoy the car and good luck!

sell it for what you can, you'll be lucky to get rid of it. Ive said it once ill say it again, Rx7s have no rewards.

The only true reward of the rx7 can be appreciated by the owner who enjoys its attributes. You either love them (hard to find) or hate them (common opinion) People fear the car and they are not easy to sell. Around here my friend bought a 1990 base model with lsd (weird) rebuilt engine, good tranny, 132000 miles, clean interior (S5) nice paint (black) and a leaky water pump, not your best rex in the world but he got it for...........................$300. Sad but true but he is super happy with his car and is learning to appreciate the rotary. All in the owner.

$300!!! that's awsome!!! Can i get one of those for here? They go for around 1500 - 2 grand for that kind of stuff. I would like one that cheap just for the parts or maybe a pure drift beater, especially with the lsd already in it ; )

i'd pay no more than 2k, but then again i wouldnt buy a n/a, so you might get lucky, because the majority of people looking to buy an n/a are new 7 owners/kids.

I couldnt have said it better myself!

The best place to sell a car for top dollar is on Ebay. Sadly most blemishes can be hidden (I dont mean deliberatly) in the photos and you'll find a younger driver that doesnt know all the ins and outs yet. Make sure it'll start and idle perfectly cold, thats where the rotary has trouble most than not, and will help your sale.

Thanks for the input guy's Im not sure what to do with this car, Ive been contemplating completing the restore on it (sandblast and re spray underside) car and returning it to factory original 86 GX spec's but does anyone think its worth it? does anyone think there will be any kind of market for a body off restored 86 RX7 I know its a classic but dont know how much of 1, it would be easy to do as almost everything on this car is completely new or mint. My other option (which Im leaning toward) is to sell the car and get 91-95 MR2 turbo ( my all time fav.) Or I could even go all out on the RX and mod the **** out of it throw a bunch more money into the RX but I dont know how reliable this car will be compared to the MR2, what do u guy's think I'm vexed!!nizzles

Basically the car is unreliable. which Is why I said its a love/hate relationship. If your thinking about modding it, sell it and find a turbo II, if its just for fun keep it and enjoy it. If yyour TRUE favorite car of al time is the MR2 then go for that, its all in preference man, its no good if your driving a rex and an MR2 passes you by and you start to cry, like I used to do when a REX would pass me by when I owned a dsm.

That is the key, right there. Money is nothing against happiness. If you've always wanted a MR2, and you have the financial means to support it, go for it.

As for me, I love my $200 dollar FC, even though she's N/A, and I don't think we'll be parting for a long time

Why do you say FC's are unreliable? My N/A has 205K miles on it without any major problems. You just have to take care of them.

If you are at all thinking of selling it don't put another penny into it, or restore it for that matter, they just don't have the mystic about them to garner high prices!

You do it for love on an RX-7 not for the money!

i'm from canada too.
dude, that car is not worth 10K canadian dollars. 1 USD is like 1.30 CAD. so yah, someone has been smoking crack.

i know he's from BC and all, but still...that car isn't worth 10K at all. considering it's an S4, let alone an 86 gx...3000 if he's really lucky.

ah ha ah ha ah ha..............damn Ive never heaRD a joke about our money before you guys are hilarious. I hate to do it but I think Im gonna sell my REX it almost turns my stomache Ive really come to love this car quite a bit. I wish I could keep both but I have nowhere to park the REX once I get a MR2. My reason for selling the Rex is from what I can tell no1, even all u guys that love REX's so much can vouch for the reliability of the 13B and need a car more reliable. I really would like to get a 1991-92 MR2 N/A and swap in a JDM 94+ turbo engine and tranny w/LSD 245hp!!!!Thanks for all the input guys!!!!!!!

Do what you want, but you might regret it when an RX-7 smacks that MR-2 down one day.

Theres always one car rx7 that will smack an mr2, but there is also always an mr2 that will smack an rx7. He's talking about reliabilty and if you want an rx7 that will smack a turbo mr2 chances are to make more powerful it won't be as reliable as the mr2 at those stages, its also about how much money you have and the quality of parts you use.
