Are these little rust spots problematic on my e-shaft?
Just wanted a second opinion.
Stored my e-shaft and some small little rust spots started to form. Are these going to be an issue? How can i smooth these out knowing that the bearing rides on these surfaces.
I would say no. Just get some emory cloth . It's like sandpaper with a more durable fabric backing, and some 1000 grit sandpaper. Take a strip of emory cloth and put it around the shaft. Grab the ends and pull back and forth like when you see someone shining a shoe. Start with fine grit emory paper. Something close to the equivalent off 400 grit. Then use the 1000 grit sandpaper in the same way to finish it off. Should be fine.
On small spots like that you may be able to sand like normal, but if something like an E-shaft has quite a bit of surface rust the above method works well.

yes.
Dak provided a good tidbit here. whenever i do something like this i actually go around the whole lobe. i don't know if doing just the spot necessarily hurts anything, but i usually don't do just the spot.
