Thermostat question

I got a new theremostat from Advanced Auto Parts. It is a Stant Thermostat. I was looking at the haynes manual...just to see if there was anything I need to do special ( Im not an idiot I just like to read manuals ), and it said that I need to insert the thermostat so that the Jiggalin(sp?) pin was in a certain place. The jiggalin pin is like a little ball that hangs from the lip of the outer edge of the thermostat. Anyway..the stant thermostat doesnt have one of these jiggalin pins, and the one I took out and replaced did (probably original). I just wondered if It was necessary, and I should get a OEM MAzda thermostat, or if this Stant one is OK. It seems to be working fine(although I still have this damn coolant leak ..Aaarggh).

You do need to get the right stat. The Stant will work temporarily if you drill a small bleed hole. Also measure the offset of the spring loaded disc & see that it closes the bypass port.

I had gotten a Stant.. and people from the board told me to take it back and get a MAZDA OEM one.. just because the aftermarket t-stats will not work.. .and eventually your engine will be worse than before.

I still need to get my mazda oem one.

Ok, just out of curiosity, would the absence of this Jiggalin Pin be causing my coolant leak??( Coming out of the overflow bottle, not sucking it back in). Thanks

On the OEM thermostat, there is something called a Jiggalin Pin ( I may have misspelled it ) Anyway, on the outer lip of the thermostat, there is a small hole, with a rod going through it with a ball on the end. It's very small, about 1/4 inch long or less. I have a coolant leak where the coolant is just pumped out of the overflow bottle, and it isnt being brought back in. If there is supposed to be a bleed hole (Jiggalin Pin) in the thermostat, I though that It may be possible for the system to have too much pressure when the thermostat is closed, and be forcing coolant out. Thats my question, is that a possibility??

It's a jiggle pin! When you shake the thermostat, it jiggles!
