Thermo Wrap Install????
I AM GETITNG A DOWN PIPE FOR MY 10TH AE. I AM THINKING ABOUT GETTING A THERMO WRAPP FOR THE DOWNPIPE. I HAVE HEARD OF PEOPLE USING IT ON THE T2'S BUT I AM NOT SURE IF THEY REALLY WORK. ALSO CAN THEY MAKE THE ENGINE RUN HOTTER IN OTHER WAYS??

Haven't we ALL heard this
WELL I INSTALLED THAT WRAP ON MY RX-7 1991 TURBO...Whew....sorry all that shouting was hurting my throat.
Yeah, so installed that wrap on my exhaust. Only have about 8 miles on it and it is a new engine so I have to break it in.
What I can comment on it smokes when the exhaust gets hot. But that will wear off. Also, I got mine from carparts.com and if you search you can find 10% discounts real easy!.
It seems like it should reduce heat.

Im going to wrap my downpipe, my couisin has like 800 feet of that stuff. I just had my downpipe jet-hot coated too, so that thing should be cold to the touch!

I did it on my 3 " exhaust which is now for sale....hint hint. and it dropped under hood temps down considerably, so i would recommend it. jet coating is a good way to keep the temp down, if you have the time and money.

I really like it!
I wrapped my downpipe with it a couple of months ago. It really dropped the engine temps big time. I think it looks kinda cool too (not that you can really see it where its located).
They suggest coating the wrap with 1500 degree paint to protect it, and like Wankel7 said, it does smoke the first couple of times you heat it up, until it "cures." After that though, there is no smoke or smell at all.

Oh Yah, wear gloves when you touch the wrap, or your hands will itch for a couple of days from the fiberglass fibers. Not that I was stupid enough to forget to wear gloves or anything....

DON'T USE IT!!!
the thermo wrap will corrode the dump pipe. it happended to mine after only 3mnths. i've seen it corrode an dump pipe so much u can poke a pen through it with ease.
only use the ceramic coatings! however this is expensive

I've heard the same. It holds the heat which eventually breaks it down I guess. I haven't seen it with my own eyes however. The frontpipe was replaced before I got to see it.
